I'm new to this site and was just wondering about an MSD ignition install on my Belvedere with a 440. Can you completely eliminate the ballast resistor? It has a updated version of the Chrysler electronic system on it now and was going to "clean up" the firewall with MSD. Also was wondering about an internal voltage regulated alternator eliminating more stuff on firewall, electrical is my downfall on these older systems.
Thanks in advance as I know there will be lots of help from the mopar fans out there!

Yes, the MSD box eliminates the ballast resistor. Go to their site and check out the wiring diagrams. Powermaster one wire alternators work well as well as many others. Check out Summit or Jegs...

You would be better off to invest $60 and buy a Ford 3G alternator and hang one of those on. You can get a very good one (used) online or at your auto dismantlers. They are clockable ( at the mounting ears)but if you get one with the ears at 180 degrees your good to go. The reason I don't like " 1 wire" is that they don't have a sensing wire which opens/closes the diode circuits to make the alternator put out exactly what you need at any given time. 3g's come in a couple of outputs - I like and use the 130 amp. The regulators come in a single wire configuration ( from any rebuild shop) as well, and, cost about $18 at the dealers and can be changed out in minutes. Pick your pulley - they come in every type imaginable. Mine is hung low and utilizes double-v's but will accept serpentine. Oh, did I mention how quick they respond to load? Won't get that in a single wire.
