Purchased a used hood latch with cable and release handle for my 1972 Satellite Sebring Plus project. Do I need to make a hole in the firewall to pass the cable through? T found two large holes already in the vicinity, but one is way over behind the brake pedal and the other is kinda behind the fresh air vent box. And how/where does the release handle attach? Thank you.

I have both. you can use both if you attach inside hood pull to existing release. inside & outside releases are slightly different.

Actually your right. That lower right hole is for the speedo cable. Hood cable goes through a hole next to the speedo cable. Here is my 72 with inside hood release.

Well, it looks like it's time to get out my drill bits. I was hoping, of course, we would find a predrilled hole, or at least a dimple.

moparmarks pic is spot on with my 73 charger. I combined my SE car with outside hood release from rallye car. I used the outside hood release and attached the cable from inside release to it. both operate great. just like the thought of having both options and was simple to do. I find myself using both a lot. Just depends on if I am in or out of the car when I decide to open the hood.

Well, I have to assume the Charger and Satellite share the same hole (sounds obscene).

I thought the whole idea of the inside latch was so the hood could 'not' be opened from the front of the car? :icon_scratch:

Matter of fact, the factory installation of the inside hood release includes a shield around the latch/cable mechanism to prevent access to the latch release from outside.

I am sotill looking for the inside hood release cable shield. (Picture of shield in post above) I guess i could fabricate one if someone could show me where it attaches and what it really looks like. I cant find it in factory service or factory chassis manuals. I'm getting ready to install the aftermarket cable snd a used latch. Thank you.

Mounts vertically to the center vertical support of the header panel, forward of the latch. Should see the mounting screw holes pre-stamped on the existing support.
