I need to pull the glass, do some patching of lower window frame corners, and replace it.

I know "butyl tape" is used between the glass and body. Is any adhesive used? Or does the tape have adhesive in/on it? Should the tape be heated to insure a good seal? All comments and pointers welcomed.

The glass installation company just used Butyl Tape, just make sure it is the right thickness. I can't remember the thickness they used but it's critical so the trim sits how it is supposed to. They also put two plastic spacers of some sort on the bottom of each side of the glass. This was so the glass wouldn't slide down when it sits in the sun.
