Interesting find in a local junkyard

Once the cars are set in the yard, they cannot legally sell them whole.
Todays haul was over $700! I have never spent that much at any self serve yard!

I don't see a 'whole' car there......once a part is pulled, it's not whole anymore.

Well this was basically the german version of the corvette c3 and a great summary for united states vs. europe lol

When I went to Germany in 71 I bought a 66 Opel Rekord and it had similar tail lights. When I first saw a GT, my first thought was they got the lights from the 66 lol. The odd thing about my 66 was that it was a 4 dr sedan with bucket seats and 4 on the floor. The majority of stick cars over there back then (which was many of them) were 4 on the tree! Mine also had the 1900 engine with a progressive 2 bbl. It did run pretty good for a 4 banger and would bury the speedometer no sweat. A good thing about is that I got 2 gas ration books instead of 1 because of the engine size. Lots of guys with smaller engines usually needed more than 1 book and I always had plenty left over every month.

An earlier version of the Manta was sold in the US too. (Early 70s?) It was a good lookin car, MUCH better than the Kadett!

The doors were $95 each. We pulled the rear and side windows, upper and lower control arms, the 6 pod instrument panel, fuse panel, polished aluminum valve cover, door strikers and a few other bits. Rich wanted the steering rack but they wanted too much for it.
We started at 9:00 and were at the cashier around 1:00. We loaded up his stuff then went back in to pull an 83/4” axle for me.
It was a good day for scores.

It was always the Baby Vette. Interesting hidden headlights. I'd cut the nose off it and make it a wall hanging. I did that with a 2002 black Pontiac Trans Am. The part was on CL for free. When I picked it up the owner said he wished he'd thought of that.

Saw a few wagons like that while I was there! A Tec Sargent had a 57 Mercedes that was sweet and still all stock. Don't remember the model type though but do remember how good it handled for such a smooth riding car. Man, the rads were building cars that were way better then what he had here lol

It was sticker shock for sure. Especially because I didn't need any of the parts, I was just getting spares and body parts for the Opel community. A lot of Opel parts are being reproduced and sold through Opel GT Source, but a lot of parts aren't. Nobody in the US is repro'ing the glass; I wanted the windshield but it had a crack.
I don't go to wrecking yards much anymore but from what I remember paying in the day, now they've gotten really proud of their beat up, wrecked inventories.
I'll probably won't recoup my investment, unless Maria drives over a curb and bends a control arm, or someone breaks into her side glass. But it was still a good time dismantling the car.

Ain't easy! Mine has the seats mounted straight to the floor, (about a foot further back than stock) and I've got a flat-bottom steering wheel. I'm 6'3".
