Has anyone used a carbon composite intermediate shaft gear? What experiences did you have good or bad.

Thanks
Shane

For the first time a Carbon Ultra-Poly Distributor Gear for the Mopar B/RB-Series with solid and hydraulic roller cams is here! These gears fit 383, 400, 413, 426, 440, & 426 Hemi with a 484 in. shaft. Roller cams are made from steel cores rather than cast iron for hydraulic flat tappet cams. The traditional fix for this was to run a sacrificial bronze gear which failed in short order. BOP Engineering's ultimate distributor/oil pump drive gear for the Big Block Mopar is crafted from a proprietary carbon composite, this gear replaces worn bronze distributor gears and are a must for any roller cam or cast iron cam, especially with higher pressure oil pumps. Do Not confuse these with melonized gears. Melonizing is a surface treatment that will wear off quickly. There is no comparison. These gears have 20 years of proven street and track performance and durability may be the last one you ever buy! Never worry about metal shavings in your oil again.

I sure hope not....That is what I have in my setup.

Melonized gears do not wear out quickly. Nothing could be further from the truth. GM melonized distributor gears were used for years and millions of miles. Composite gear, HV oil pump, stiff valve springs and you're asking for trouble with a SBF with it's fairly small distributor gear. You might get away using one in a BBM. I've had zero failures with steel roller cams and melonized gears for thousands of miles in my SBF and SBC and that's what I'm using in my 440.
