Mine does not have the shock towers inverted and I have to pull the front shocks off to get the valve covers off. PITA

What i did was buy the correct valve covers that clears it. Also I went ahead and bought a pair of strange double adjustable front shocks with the adjustments on the bottom, i put my afco on another car.
Early b bodies that have larger cams need a valve cover thats notched.
You need to do your homework before you buy aftermarket parts for these cars.:violent-smiley-100:

What valve covers are you using? I have Stage V heads and the Stage V valve covers.

Indy cast valve covers to clear the shock tower and rear heater on firewall.Indy sells a set specifically for the tight space on the 65 hemi.I tried other sheetmetal covers with no success. Indy sells 2 versions. I should have bought the polished set.

Getting back on track, inverting the shock tower also will make my car more period correct. it has original light weight fenders, hood.
I went from the original chrome valve covers that were much thinner and cleared no problem with the notch.
But going to these thick valve covers, theres no room to go the valve cover down low enough. I had afco shocks with the long extention adjustment on top and there was no way the new covers were going down. Also trying to get those lower bolts on were a real pain.

I like the inverted shock tower idea. I thought about doing it to dads car (I may have time now)

I notched our shock tower like yours and now we really don't have much problem getting the cover off.
We do have to drop the shock, then I use a 1/4" drive deep well w/ a long extension and a swivel on it. Once the bolts are all lose then I use one of those extended parts grabbers to get the bolts in and out.

my chassis guy would not do mine.he said the shock will not drop out correctly.i tend to believe him he builds alot of fast super stock cars.

Who is the chassie builder Holt? just wondering.

You know I thought about what your saying. You would have to run a shorter body and stroke shock.
I do like the idea of the inverted shock tower and would like to do it to dads car also but it is a lot more involved than just cutting out the old tower and welding in an inverted one.

if he builds some really fast cars why is he working on yours? You must be in the minority as one of his customers then.

jimi vignona from V & V racing just pulled out a factory inverted shock tower for me. we are going to put it in my 65 belvedere soon.

SSR how much shorter are the new shocks ?? what's the overall length ??, who's shocks did you end up going with ??, still the Strange's double adjustable ??, or did you go AFCO like on the other car ?? you said in an earlier post... just curious, maybe I missed it somewhere...LOL... I would love to have the extra room in the engine bay either way, maybe someday down the road, before I build my next set of headers, it never hurts to know what's working good... thanks in advance

JIMI AND I DISCUSSED IT AND no need for a shorter shock. as long as you have a good adjustable shock on extention, you will be fine.
its gonna give me some extra room on passenger side. its tight over there with stock inner fenders and these large hemi indy valve covers.
