Looking to buy a 72 Charger. Found one but is a little rough and want to make sure it is a real Rallye before buying and spending time and money to restore.
VIN and fender tag match. Was a 340 car (now 318) and has bulge hood and louvered taillights. Louvered doors may have been replaced in the past.
Some sources say 340 engine with V21 hood option means its a rallye.
Other sources say should have U price code or A57 option code
Data plate reads

03146 193971 687 042
G11
26 G37 L37 N23
V4W U V21 C16 H51
HB1 E6B5 GB5 525 148708
E55 D34 WH23 H2A 195305

Hopefully someone out there has experience with these Rallye's

If 340, is a Rallye by default. It was the only way to get a 340, being a Rallye in 72/73 ( 360 on 74 ).

In 72 the V21 code it will show is a Rallye too, but that's not really the bulged hood option, more the black out treatment on buldge. By 73/74 you can get a Rallye without the V21 treatment on Bulged hood, specially being gradated stripes. The bulged hood is another code which I can't recall at this moment.

The A57 code for the Rallye package is unexistant on fender tag cars built at lynch road plant, but just at buildsheet. On these you can just take the conclusions by the fender tag options like you did and facts of what is still present on car ( if not buildsheet available )

Nacho is correct. A 340 car was a Rallye by default. The fender tag would show V21 and A57. A57 was the Rallye Package only on other cars.

I might be interested in selling my project if this one doesn't work out

Thanks for the help. I bought the beast yesterday! Now the work begins. Is a little rough but optioned nicely. Has the same interior as my first car I bought 40 years ago when I was 16 - 1971 GTX. Am questioning the pattern on the seats. They are the same as 1971 but most sources say they changed the pattern for 72. Are well aged and appear to be original or redone a very long time ago. Data plate decodes to blue high back buckets. Wonder if anyone else has a 72 that came with this seat pattern?

There b body seats but look like ply to me never had anything like that in any of my chargers
Nice car

That looks like a very solid car ! I can't believe two 72 rallyes pop up at the same time . Congrats make sure you make a build thread I'll be watching and if you need anything just ask I have one here apart and I've been threw 10-15 of them over the years .

Sweet ride. Glad you got it. Put pics up as you restore.
