Is the factory slap stick shifter screw a sheet metal screw or a machine screw?

Putting back together a 1972 SSP and wondering if the plastic handle for the floor shift (slap stick) is held on by a machine screw or a sheet metal screw from the factory? Thank you.

It is a machine screw - it screws into the metal handle of the shifter mechanism. As I recall, it is a fine thread screw. I can't get a picture of it right now, but if you need a picture, let me know. Otherwise, just try with various fine thread screws to get the right size...

That's what I thought. Looks like a previous owner stuck a sheet metal screw in there. Don't know if a machine screw will fit now. Thank you.

Had lots of slap stick cars over the years and even found them with wood screws in them and this is when the cars were not all that old!! Morons.

I believe they also had a tapered head.

Just took mine out. It's a machine screw with a tapered head.
