Is there any Mopar that is appreciating in a downswing?

I remember when my dad and uncles used to buy big block mopars for under 1,000 bux all day long....

so do I,
I bought allot of them
from $300-$1500 from 1974-1979-ish,
my 1st car was a 68 Charger R/T for $350, in great shape 1974, I was 15 y/o...

Might want to do some shopping around. I was looking at a 72 Roadrunner, 440/727, in primer ready to paint, complete but needing new carpet/headliner/seat covers, for $7,000 yesterday. Also, I've been seeing 68-70 Chargers running about double what Roadrunners are going for, but 71-74 cars are about on par with each other.

But even with those numbers. you have to look at what's for sale and what's selling. There's a very nice 74 360 Roadrunner near me that's been for sale for $11,000 for over two years now. My fav is the 73/74 Roadrunners so I track them pretty closely and there are eight that I've been tracking on the East coast, and the ones that are over $8,000 aren't selling, nor are 71-72 cars over $15,000. They're listed at much higher prices, but they aren't selling.

Keep an eye on the Mecum auction this weekend. They are auctioning off a lot of the Wellborn Collection, and they have a lot of 71-72 Chargers going on the block. There's also a Tor-Red 440-6 Superbird going across tomorrow that I'm very interested in seeing what it sells for.

what about stationwagons?

I think wagons have a serious love/hate issue. Most of the people who buy them want them for nostalgia purposes, mainly because Mom and Dad had one. My folks had a 1975 Monaco wagon that I learned to drive in and went everywhere in... but I have no desire to ever buy one. Plus getting glass for them is a major PITA!

I've seen wagons going for just above scrap value to $12,000+. It all depends on who wants it, but there's no collector market for them that I've seen.

So what do you think that car is worth?

I would say about $20,000 based on what I'm seeing 71/72 cars selling at.

Cordobas seem to be going up in price I was looking around for a factory big block one and got shocked at the prices

I have found that 66 and 67 B bodies are doing well right now. I have a few of them that are resto mods and it's been surprising in todays market how they are doing. Just an opinion though and like others have said it's all up to what the buyers are looking for at the time.

So that would make your 74 worth about 5,000, right?

I just showed you a 71 and a 72 that sold for around 30K. Any real nice 72 440 4-spd A/G cars that you see for 20K you give me a call, ok?

Well, like I said earlier, there's a really nice 74 that's been for sale around here for over two years at $10,000, so what's the value of a 73/74 these days? Could be $5-7K now. As for your 71/72 offerings, only a fool values cars based on what one or two sells for. I look at trends across the market. Some guys get lucky and find someone with the desire and the money, others don't, which is why you have to look across the market.

Maybe where you live cars are scarce. We don't have that problem down here. :)

Cool. Always good to have another Mopar guy around.

Hmm. I saw a 59 Olds stationwagon with a 371 bring 20k this summer and it needed repainting. I also saw a 62 Chevy wagon bring $15k that wasn't much to look at.

I think it greatly depends on what part of the country you are in. I have already been offered $5k more than I have in mine, but I would rather keep it for that.

:iamwithstupid: I think demographics & were you shop & live,
all have a big difference in pricing/selling too

In the rust belt northern or northeastern states,
rust free or very little is a rarity, can bring good money, because of convenience

Sunny rainy sometimes rusty/Florida cars, abundance of cheap cars for sale,
with their millions of northern retiree's, abundance of fixed incomes, cars stored outdoors

Mid America snow country, cars in heated garages,
somewhat drier of the colder climates, but still rust prone, if left outside

Or the much, much dryer Southwest or Calif., inside a garage or left out,
no salt, less rain & less humidity, far less rust, seems most everyone has garages

They all have a different markets & demographics
especially for pricing/value & asking sales prices Vs actual sales prices...

Allot more than most will/would think,
location, location, location !! that saying isn't just for housing...

It's not just the stuff you see on Barrett Jackson or Mecum or E-scam/Craigslist

my $0.02 cents, I don't need a rebuttal,
but that's honestly what I see & what I think !!
After owning some 60 Muscle Cars {of many different makes, mostly Mopar},
26 racecars & near or over 100 cars/trucks total now...
I'm not a self proclaimed "know it all" type, so called expert either, will never claim to be...

I don't have an agenda,
I'm not trying to buy something cheap or score a screaming deal always,
or I'm not inferring that the market is falling or rising,
Blah Blah Blah, you so often hear...

It always fluctuates, trends come & go, it's the nature of the beast, always will be...
People change collections, styles come & go, people age & sell to buy homes
or to raise a family, latter get back into a car, relive their youth,
often will pay more for a decent car etc.
{they can be a great buyer, not cheapskate tire kickers, motivated with $$$ too}

Opinions will vary vastly too,
I'm sure, but that's mine...

good luck & happy shopping

Would throw my duckets at this all day long. Nice example of a resto mod nicely done.

Would have to agree with Bud. Desert cars from here bring a lot more money back in the rust belt. For the last decade I've been hauling about 10,000 pounds of desert body parts back to OH and PA every summer and I get 4-10 times the money out there but I'm also hauling it all the 2000 trip out there. I know the 4 cars that we have bought out of FL. were rusty pieces of crap and will probably never buy one from FL. again. Just didn't go well with those cars. I watch the market across the county, not just here but we do have a lot of Mopars around here.
I'm not basing my thoughts on just two cars. I also mentioned two other cars. The 72 at Mecum what did it bid up too? Low 30's? So at least two people were willing to pay that for the car but it's only worth 20K?
I guess we can agree to dis-agree.
The problem with Mecum is they have 1-2 auctions every month and have flooded the auction market. A lot of those cars that didn't sell on the block are selling behind the scenes.
