I noticed this the other day while crawling around working on my parking brake setup. Will this, what looks to be a seal, leak once I get this car drivable? It will move for and aft and there is a gap towards the front on the transmission where it’s sitting now. I hope you can see in this sheety picture.

Your right, pretty sheety picture. I can't see anything.

It's not the lighting, there is no picture

That's the dust boot that is attached to a factory style seal. It does not cause a leak. If it is leaking you need a seal and possibly a tail shaft bushing. Myself I would just replace the seal now and see where it goes from there.

Looks like I will have to add this too the list. :BangHead:

Thats how it goes for me too. I'll be doing some work on my wagon soon and dropping the drive shaft is in that equation. I've learned on my own and from others, once you disturb the Feng shui going on there, it's going to leak. Replacement is on hand for me just waiting. When I do a fresh engine, the converter seal will get replaced at that time.

Cut the boot off and try it.

For now I'm just gonna leave it alone. If it leaks, then I will have to deal with it.
Ok, but they make them with and without dust boots. So all it's doing is hiding what you're concerned about . It's not hard to do with an exacto knife or whatever.

It won't be hiding any leaks, that's for sure.

I’m no drivetrain expert but there doesn’t seem like there is any clearance for suspension travel at that point shouldn’t there be a couple inch’s of space between the dust cover and U Joint?
