Port Road Drag meeting - north of Auckland, New Zealand, about 2 hours or so.... a small, closed road was used for several years by the local Hot Rod club. Our club was invited to attend, and it was always a great weekend. Quarter-mile track laid out with some home-made lights and a group of club members helping out.

I finally found a video uploaded by a guy who must have a stash of footage from these events. I had some of my own video, but it seems to be buried under a load of clutter. I was starting to think I imagined those days.

You can see my Road Runner at the beginning....and the burnout contest that starts around 58-minute mark - I'm up second, behind an old mate in his replica Shelby...one I mentioned a while ago here.

That burnout I did eventually blew a tire - the smoke got better and better as I got closer to home. I think I touched the brakes a bit hard near the beginning.

Even earlier ...June 1988 .... this was the weekend that I broke the NZ Land Speed record for towing a BBQ.

Broke the BBQ trailer on the way home doing a sedate 60-70mph ..... however on the way up to the drag meet on the Saturday morning, I left a 66 Impala 427 and a Shelby CJ428 in my wake .... exceeding 140mph. The two following me were fully tapped out while I was still pulling away.
I got into a bit of hot water over the trailer...but fortunately blame was taken by the builders - no springs at all. Solid axle and no suspension to speak of.
The speed thing received an honourable mention many years later at the Club's 25th Anniversary Dinner. :p

Sure was.... the guy posting the videos responded to me last night and thanked me for the comments.

I have been searching for these videos for a long time now. I knew one day they would surface.

It's fun!!

I was cruising you tube once and found a whole video someone took of my car at a cruise in and posted it. It made me feel good, as strange as that sounds.
