Hi Guys -

Quick Question (Just checking to be safe - feel stupid asking this) -

I have 64 Polara with a Push Button 727 Transmission w Stage 2 shift kit. I need to top up the tranny fluid. I've always used Dexron III/Merc.

When I visited all the parts stores today, every Dex 3 brand said for older Ford or GM vehicles like the picture below. I can't find any Dex 3 that mentions mopar family products.

Is the Ford/GM Dex III different some how? I can't see how but wanted to check here first. Can I put in the Ford stuff as long as Dex 3 is in it? I haven't had to top up the fluid in quite some time.

Really just about any name brand universal atf Dex/Merc will be fine. I just run oreillys premium atf or atf+4 its backward compatible. The newer super low viscosity may be more prone to leaks.

The guy that built that trans would traditionally use dexron/ mercon ll/lll. Which is what I recommend. Brand is not important, just type

Name brand Dex /Merc non synthetic unless you can prove it's not a low viscocity oil that they say is compatible. You can pour anything in there and it will work, but the fluidics in the old trannys isn't engineered to use the modern low or ultra low viscocity oils.
I'm surprised you haven't been brow beaten for asking this question!
