Kinda funny, but kinda not...

Sadly this has become a thing.. If its not in their computer they dont know **** at parts stores. And if any poor soul has an odd ball build you better know what parts you used to build your ride.

Local NAPA here still has counters of books as well as computers. They don't shut down when the computers do.

Manufacturers change numbers from time to time, the old books also give an accurate look into the past that can't be changed, whereas Wiki and the like can be rewritten in seconds; like the definition of Devil's Triangle changed as we watched.

Actually, this isn't about parts guys... this is about ordering parts from manufacturers and if it's not a 50-state part and you live in California, they get fined if they ship it to you. K&N cannot ship a CAI for my 17 RAM because it's not 50-state certified. They would get a huge fine. They can ship it to the other states, not Calif.

^^^^^^ I thought that was fake when I saw it on you tube. Gotta love California, "Land of the Fruits and the Nuts" No offense, Just reminded me of that was my shop teacher's saying back in 1975

It's always been a 'different' state, and one I never fully adopted. But it's definitely getting worse. To give an example, my friend at K&N can't ship a CAI for my 2017 RAM because it's not 50-state legal. Each one that he ships out needs to be documented what state it ships to, and CARB tracks them. If they see that he shipped one to a California address, they get a huge fine, so even as a friend he can't even ship one to me.

I recently ordered a fuel pressure regulator from Summit and the process required me to list what vehicle it was for since it's not legal on pollution controlled vehicle. That's just jacked up.

So you cannot order one for your 'off-road' vehicle you are building, or to be used on some other non-road operating engine?...or a v-8 boat motor?

That's the thing, you can order it, but you better not tell them it's for a vehicle that has emission controls. It's best to just tell them it's for a 1962 whatever.

As long as it fits older vehicles (in addition to pollution controlled vehicles) you have an out.
But try to have a 49 state part for a specific modern application, and you can't get out of it. I can't even tell them I did a Hemi swap in my 1965 Plymouth - K&N will not ship a CAI for a 2017 RAM to California.

If you know some one close but out of state ship to them and them to you. More shipping $.

Yes, Cold Air Intake. That's an awesome offer, what part of Cali do you head out to? I'm near Temecula. I'll talk to my friend at K&N and see if he can ship it to you.
Thanks...
