So Im possibly going to be stroking my 318 to a 390 and was looking for new heads the.stroker kit requires 64 cc heads for 9:5 to 1 compression and the bigger valves will help as well. I found a company selling heads that's are 64 cc with 2.02 intake and 1.625 exhaust valves but it says they are magnum type heads that will fit la engines and will accept earlier intake manifolds so you can mount on la engines and enjoy the benefits of Magnum flow heads. What do you guys think have you heard of this.

I've never heard of magnum heads that could fit an early intake manifold. I guess it could be done. I like the magnum heads. 1.6 rockers, bigger valves and smaller combustion chamber. How can you lose? I have a magnum headed 318 sittin in my shop floor right now that's goin in my 83 D150.

Ya its wierd I think I'll give them a call it says La magnum heads will accept early intakes so you can enjoy the benefits of magnum breathing characteristics.

They sell the air gap magnum head so there's really no reason to use the LA intake.

MoPar has/had a head that was a Magnum head with "LA" attaching angled intake bolt holes. They has a catchy line for them. "Imagine the possibilities!"

So the head builder answered some questions they are magnum heads setup to accept LA intakes so now the question is does anyone know someone who has used magnum heads on an LA and what did they use for pushrods as I read I'll need custom length ones to accommodate the newer rocker components.

Hey rusty how did these pushrods work for was the length just right I read an article that people complained about pushrods for this from summit were a little too short. If you don't mind me asking what are you running for a cam and also rockers . Thanks

You're absolutely correct about that. The original pushrod everyone was using for the "standard" conversion was a touch too short. Those pushrods I linked to are .050" longer than the others. Problem solved. ;)

I am running the stock rockers. They actually spec out much closer than the shaft mounted ones. I am running this cam:

Now, I have assumed all this time that you ARE talking about running a hydraulic flat tappet, correct? If you're running something different, then you'll need a different pushrod.
