Best way to r&r replacement leaf springs 67 R/T, On garage floor without a lift. Using the basic floor jack and jack stands. There are no rusted or stuck fasteners,so that is a plus just need a procedure one at a time, both same time? Thanks

same as with a lift just closer to the ground.

Jack up the rear. Stands under the frame just in front of the front spring hangers. Use the jack under the rear to control height. Do one side at a time. Easy peasy.

I think I have the major points covered.

Chock front wheels
Jack stands (not HF;-) under the lift points of the rear frame rail.

One side at a time.
  • Removing the wheel is optional, but will give you much more room.
  • Remove lower shock nut and shock off of the stud, not mandatory,
    • but it will make it easier to start the U bolt nuts.
  • Remove U bolt nuts and shock mount plate.
  • Support the axle with a jack stand close to the spring perch.
  • Remove rear shackles and drop the rear of the spring down.
  • Remove 4 nuts on front spring hanger and slide spring out the side.
  • Remove the front bolt from the spring hanger
Reverse procedure to reassemble.
Repeat for other side.

Oh and if you are like me, make sure you change springs in 90-100 degree weather and high humidity. :screwy:

One more tip:
Wirewheel and put your favorite penetrating oil on the U-Bolts a few days prior.
Even my on my "rust free" Satellite they were pretty sticky, those fine threads like to gall themselves.
Yes not a bad job really.

I had to cut my u bolts off.
Mancini has the correct u bolts with flat contacts.

The worst part of the job in my opinion is the factory rear shackle. if you are replacing the upper bushing while under there its a real pain getting them back into the frame.

Plan on cutting the ubolts off with an abrasive wheel. Your life will be much easier.

Agreed. I believe the original nuts have little nicks on the threads so they are locknuts.

They are a royal pain with a ratchet, not too bad with an impact, but oh so easy with the cutoff wheel. :D
