Its My Party was one of the big songs when I first started to listen to radio and rode my bike to the record store to get the new Top 40 Survey each week. Must have been the summer I was 14 and my cheap transistor radio and I were inseparable. I believe Little Deuce Coupe and Deadman's Curve were about the same time as well as Telstar and Stevie Wonder's Fingertips.

I think the song was never a lesbian issue but more of a message to young woman that they were not the property of a man when they entered into a relationship. Which is the way it should be.
