Let's talk fire extinguishers

I've read some threads were people talked about the additional damage cause by different chemical fire extinguishers. I don't know how true that is and I don't want to have to find out but I went with a Halon. When I put my race car together I added an inside kill switch beside the seat in parallel to the rear cutoff switch and mounted the extinguisher to the passenger seat. I figured I could get to both devices even if I were hanging upside down. Might be overkill but **** happens.

I run a Cold Fire system in my racecar. It is a water based foam that cleans up easily , even in the interior. 10lb, 3 nozzles. It was around $600. Refills $50. It cools, estingishes, and isn't affected by wind.

I would only ever use two things in the car, neither are ABC dry chem. Too corrosive and you have options that are better.

Halotron and Cold Fire. Halotron portables are under $100. Just as effective as ABC with no corrosion. Cold Fire is the same deal. Cold Fire is getting popular, our local sprint car track uses that for the safety crew.

Lots of mounting options and no residue to harm paint etc. I've seen a chemical extinguisher used on a car underhood fire when the A/C was turned on. Not pretty. car was saved but I don't think you would ever get all the yellow crap cleaned out.
