Got to agree with whomever called him A cheapskate. Doesn’t sound much like a friend. I usually have to force my friends to take gas money. But they get it anyway.
Maybe you should ask him if he is really hurting for money. See if he really can't afford it. Maybe that's the issue. He's in a tough spot financially and he's afraid to admit it to you. He would rather argue than admit it. Just my opinion.
Are you ride sharing to work? If you agreed 50/50 then its 50/50 no matter what. I share labor with 2 other guys, it was agreed I help you, you help me. It has worked well, has it been lopped sided at times, yes it has. It was a gentleman’s agreement and we have lived up to it and I think we are all happy.
I work with 2 other guys and its 350 for a days work, that may include 2-4 hours drive one way. That was our agreement and it works.
I think its chicken **** that your “buddy” wants to back out. I would find a new ride share. Tell the other guy to get bent.
I'd be happy, the few that have rode to work with me didn't pay anything! I made them meet me at a spot where I at least didn't have to go more than 100yds out of my way so it wasn't a big deal. If he's a friend who cares, life's to short.
Take the $30 and if he calls again ask "Got the other $60 yet?" If he says no tell him when you do stop by, then hangup. Had a guy I knew was bad with money loaned him $20 (I was po then) Took 6 months to get it out him. Couple years later he needs $200, no way. Later found out who loaned him the money, guess what never got paid back.
