Restoring rear license plate bracket on 69 Coronet, what did these look like from factory as far as paint or plating?
Had to take mine apart from the pivot pin and spring in order to straighten both pieces has old black paint on back side but I don’t believe it’s correct!
Any help anyone?
Thank You dcmason69

Good old cold galvanized that nobody can duplicate anymore. Not in this country anyhow..

Will see what it looks like after I strip off old paint !
May just foof some brite zinc on small
bracket and spring will see what rest looks like natural after using paint remover.
Thanks for the reply!

I am going to hijack/repurpose this thread to ask how in the heck do you reassemble the license plate backing, mounting bracket, spring, and rod? I'm a fairly smart person and I just am not getting it. I get how the rod threads through the plate and the spring, but I don't know where the small ends of the spring (see red arrow) are supposed to lie. I suspect they twist and lie on the bolt side of the mounting bracket (providing the necessary tension to the backing plate); see the blue arrow.

If that's correct, what's the process/technique/magic to make that happen?

Thanks (again!)

I'm thinking that I wouldn't have taken that apart. Remember this from someone that took his glove compartment door spring hinge apart.

You have to unhook the loop like I show above, so the spring ends can sit against the mounting bracket... pin in and then rebook the loop.
