Making a post on this thought after broaching the topic in a reply I posted, thought I’d toss a new one out about what your life would have been like if Chrysler Corp never existed; kind of a comical slant thinking of George’s guardian angel Clarence, in “It’s a Wonderful Life”.

When I was a little kid when the late 50’s early 60’s Chrysler's were about, I’d point them out saying ‘neat car’ as my folks and older brother told me. Why? No friggin idea. My immediate family was Ford and GM; nothing mopar. Except I had two uncles owning a ’58 Dodge and a ’57 DeSoto…and later a ’64 Fury, all of them I was nuts about. My decade older cousin had bought the Fury new with his dad’s co-signing…and a few months later, somehow talked his dad into getting a brand new ’64 Polara 426/4sp. My uncle took over the payments of the near new Fury keeping it for his transportation. He had a neat Olds Starfire he sold when taking over the Fury. In my family we had some Pontiac's, cool ones, ’63 GP and a couple of GTO’s, among my mom’s cherished T-Birds. I took the ’63 GP to get my driver’s license (389 tri-power all black) and drove it for maybe 9 months before they bought a ’66 bird….then I drove that. I was fortunate to have the wheels in HS as my mom car-pooled 90% of the time working at Briggs & Stratton. My 1st car my folks co-signed on was a ’67 GTO vert (wish I could bring that back Clarence). Then my ever like for mopars took me to my 1st one, a ’70 Cuda vert 383/4speed (aha wish I could get that back Clarence). Well holy chit, did I get the chit from my brother and my mom getting that (my dad was never one to say much so no idea what he was thinking, lol). My mother’s big complaint was the color; but my older bro, being a huge GM guy, always considered mopars crap. Why? Zero clue….as much, why was I a big fan? Same house, same upbringing. Well, he got his *** handed to him in a race with a Hemi against his Ram air IV goat one night back when. Having spent years restoring my ’63 Plymouth (always wanted one of the era remembering my uncle’s) I spent a lot of time getting to learn about Chrysler. Given my infatuation, I did ponder on ‘What if Chrysler never was’? Perish the thought! What would I have spent all my time and cash on? Suppose it would have been GTO’s as they’re a close 2nd beyond mopar. Except, I’d be yelling to Clarence “Take me back! Clarence please take me back…bring Chrysler Corporation back!” LOL. I imagine all of us Mopar guys have a story about what clicked with them about MOPARS!

If Chrysler wasn’t around back then I would have eventually invented it.... Can’t imagine life without the GTX back then. EVEn tho I recently sold it lives on...

I am really sad that the french buy Chrysler. They make Peugeot and Renault. These people have no clue. At least fiat was a company that loved fast cars and cared about chrysler. I see its the end for us.

It's not as if Peugeot is totally unaware of sporty cars...

Well, if it weren't for Chrysler, we'd all be speaking German and might not yet made it to the moon! Chrysler made so many contributions for the allies during WW2 that most people don't even know of. They improved radar, power trains for Sherman tanks,(5 connected flat head 6 cylinder engines=30 cylinders), also General Patton's personal favorite ride was a Dodge 4x4. Chrysler designed and built the Saturn rockets and never had one fail. Of course GM & Ford were big contributors as well. You can read these stories on (http://www.allpar.com/).

Shame on me for overlooking this...I wasn't thinking that far back; in all my self-absorption with their cars of the '50's-'60's-70's I got short-sighted...

What your life would have been like if Chrysler Corp never existed, my father and I both worked for Chrysler, not only would that have change what we drove, but, both our lives would have been total different, to say the least.

We wouldn't have the B-29 as we know it as Chrysler built more of the Wright radial engines than Wright did but at a lower cost and made over 6,000 running changes, improving quality and time between overhauls. All the while they did this while the plant was being built around the production lines.
Pretty much everything Chrysler built was under budget, under the time allowed and in higher numbers with improvements. Chrysler usually returned money to the government for the listed reasons.

This really is a travesty considering as others mentioned what Chrysler means to our country and history. As I stated before the French are clueless about racing and success in offering quality cars.

Living thru the demise of American Mfg (I worked at a large machine tool plant that made it just about 100 years having a glowing contribution to the war effort) I saw firsthand the doom and gloom watching employees with decades of service get their walking papers. The company, once family-owned, sold it and prompted removal of the president who started with the company as a apprentice...to replace him with a 'sales' expert just kept going from bad to worse. That POS was a tyrant with zero knowledge of mfg and cared less about understanding it forcing production measures the facility was completely incapable of. Then one Saturday afternoon it caught up to him...major explosion, 11 employees severely injured/maimed, millions of dollars of damage and shut down for 6 weeks. And two key customers waiting for their machines...they were destroyed in the fire...said bye-bye, they went to a Japanese machine maker. Helped to increase the pace of the company's death...

It's funny this subject came up now. I know a guy who has a Lamborghini and a range rover. I was talking to him the other day when he told me I should step up from my 65 and Durango. I've never forgotten where I'm from and Chrysler and other interests that put me where I'm at today. I may be a lot of things and that does include loyal and honest. I will always have a daily driver from Chrysler and my 65 makes me happy. I have nothing to prove to anyone. I still have health insurance from them and a small pension. It's called loyalty and many people that know me say Chrysler was a small part of my success and I owe them nothing. I will go to the grave as my father before me bleeding Chrysler blue and it doesn't matter whose running it or what they call it, that's how I roll.

I didn’t know these things about Chrysler. I’d like to see the same corporate responsibility today as we had back in the day.

Ed Zachary!
Without Chrysler providing cars to us they couldn't provide a living to many, many families over the years.
(Or is it the other way around)
That's a good reason to be loyal, IMO. Staying loyal provides others with jobs.
I could never buy any of my employer's product as I won't ever have children but the provided me employment for 37 years until kung flu pretty much shut it down.
If they make it through this and calls me to come back, I'll gladly go.
Back around 1980 I worked for a company building brewery and bottling equipment.
I'm loyal to this day, drinking plenty of beer!

In my mind drag racing wouldn't exist
I couldn't imagine it without the Hemi,
gen 1, gen 2 & even gen 3-4

MoPar's "Chrysler Corp." is my 1st love
albeit many aftermarket companies played a serious part
in that aspect, to me too

sitting in Nanook AA/FA Dave Hough's driven (Ed Moore backed)
I was there drewling over it, Dave lifted me up set me in his car
as a 6-7 y/o then, them pitted next to my stepdad at
Fremont or Sacramento, Orange Co., Ontario or maybe Riverside (?)
that moment, cemented me being a future drag racer, Altered owner
& life long MoPar Hemi fan
even if it was a 23 Ford T (glass) body style & had a 430cid Donovan Hemi,
it was based on the 392 Chrysler Hemi, it was the baddest car of that era
him & Gary Blazen Hazen "Panic" AA/FA were serious influences on my life
living next to the (Blown fuel flat bottom) BFFB IHBA Record Holder,
Pete & Marlene's Crazy Horse, knowing Al their pilot/driver, helped too

I can only wish I could have wandered through the engineering rooms of the big-3 back in the '60's heyday. These guys must not have slept much in a wild pursuit of outdoing each other for factory made speed. Every so often I come across articles that give a glimpse. One article I read talked about the down-sized Dodge and Plymouth circa 1962 that were initially intended to be full size cars; but as the story goes, someone caught info that Chevy was coming out with a smaller sized car...the Nova, generating the design changes. In any case, these 'smaller' mopars were cherished on the drag circuit as we know...smaller, lighter weight car...larger engines. I have a '63 Plymouth and some comment it's a big car as I try to inform them otherwise...at least for its era.

I could have been an AMC guy.

Where was I when this "merger" was announced in Dec?!! Here's an analysis:
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/12/18/fia...-agree-to-binding-50-billion-merger-deal.html
IMHO, allying with Peugeot will insure Chrysler survival, tho' not the survival of US plants. Peugeot and REnault are part owned by the French government, who will never allow French workers to be fired en masse. So...maybe this merger or hostile takeover will be good for FCA in the long run. And, anybody out there think the sale to Mercedes was a mistake...???
