Well, I bought a new tail panel for my '68 GTX a while back and installed it. Looks great, but the tail light bezels looked like crap next to it!

So, on the net I found a pair of bezels from a retailer and bought them. They arrived and lo & behold, they are a different color!

The tail panel is a lighter color than the bezels.

Does anyone have a picture of what the light argent and dark argent look like together? ( I think the people that made this piece just used the wrong color.) If so, could you post it so I can see how much difference there is in the colors.

Hopefully, I can return the new ones and get them to paint a set with the lighter color. If not, I think I will take my existing bezels off and put the new ones on. Then strip , re-chrome and paint them to match my tail panel.

Or, if anyone has a suggestion, that would be fantastic!

I redid my tail panel, GTX 68, and used lt argent. The dark argent is for the grill and rocker molding. There is a big difference between the two.

Here are some pictures, The black GTX is mine, The other 2 came from the internet. You can see the yellow one looks like mine, but the other one looks darker.

The tail panel looks correct, the trouble is you may have to paint both to get them to match. I got my paint from a Dodge dealer and is suppose to be the correct color.

Arrrgh!

Not something I really wanted to hear!

I hope I can work a deal with the retailer I bought them from..

Thanks for the input. It's greatly appreciated!

Jeff, I hope you can work a deal with the retailer but if not, If there is any professional restores in your area, i imagine they could help you.. Just a thought and hope you can get it the way you want it, heck it won a prize at the car show not long ago, good luck!

Matt at MCB paints those when they come in from Metro. Worst case scenario, maybe you can ship them to him for a re-spray. He has the paint and is well familiar with painting those pieces.

Finish Panel

I Bought a new Re-pop from Mat @ MCB, and I told him NOT to paint it because I new the finish panel wouldn't match the taillight bezels. I will paint the bezels and the finish panel @ the same time. Mat wanted to sell me the new taillight bezels which would have matched but 300.00 was alot for me at the time. They all need to be shot with the same material at the same time for them to look good. Your bezels are "weathered", so they look a little darker. Good luck with the project! Love all the GTX's!

New, not weathered

Those bezels are new from MCB!

The tail panel is new from a different source. Don't have the paperwork in front of me, but it was not MCB.

I do have a call in to MCB so, maybe it will work out.

Again, thanks for the input.

Oh Well...

Not good news from any source...

So it's off to the painter after the show season is done. I will have him try to match the taillight bezels to the tail panel if he can.

so guys, the light argent is for the rear bezels and panel, and the dark is for the grille?? im going to fix both in the near future, and want to get them right. thanks!!

anybody know if light and/or dark argent {in a 2-part???} is available for use in a HVLP gun?

im a noob {well, not with a spray bomb lol} when it comes to actual painting; bear with me on the lingo... a friend of mine has a paint gun and he'll teach how to use it. sooooooo

i want to get the right paint for my tail panel....and eventually my front grille---'68 GTX

taping on the tail panel has already begun!! :hello2:

Where would you guys recommend to buy my rear deck lid panel and bezels from so I can avoid the same issue from the start by chance? I have a 68' also.

Good with your fix GTX.JCW

Tail panel

Thanks.. All is well now. My painter guy matched the bezels to the panel and it looks great. I will install them tomorrow. As far as getting the pieces to match, get them the same source at the same time. When I talked to Matt at MCB that is what he advised. It will be a big check to write, but it will be correct. MCB provided me with prompt service and advice, so I would recommend them..
