okay, here goes, 509-rb,64 bel, MSD mounted on the drivers side front rad. housing, I have the trigger wires from the box routed inside a piece of stainless shielded fuel line to advoid any interferance from the plug wires,msd wires,( which I am not impressed with at all) starting at about 4000 or there abouts there is a light miss I havn't found yet. how much seperation should the trigger wires have from the plug wires?? just left a speed shop that tells me that the problem is the new 3 aught welding lead that I am using for battery cables, both leads leave the batt. (pass. tail lite) and terminate on the out side fender well drivers side front. the ground is grounded three times before it gets to the front of the car. the pos. side is from the switch(18 inches from the batt) and then to the front w/ no breaks. everything on the front including the grounds comes off of the terminal at the front, I really hate to tear all my lead out as it is new, but will if the concenous is that is the problem. or look somewhere else??? Dave.
 
3/0 sounds fine, maybe just a bad connection? Think I ran 2/0, but welding cable is pretty good stuff(nice &flexible too)
 
I thought 3/0 would be fine too, the guy says it causes a problem with the MSD box?? first I have known about it, all the connections are done like a welding lead connection, wrapped with dead soft copper with a liberal coat of dieletric grease inside the connections. need more input. Dave.
 
First, your stainless steel cover must be grounded to be effective. All grounding can not be overemphasized. Your battery cable size is probably fine. Steady dc current (battery cable) does not produce harmful RF as much as AC or pulsating DC current such as spark plug wires or spinning armature devices such as electric fans or even your alternator so just keep them separated. I can't tell you the separation distance but you don't have to have several feet of separation. RF interference diminishes quickly with distance but be mindful with plug wires because they produce lots of RF.
Some pictures of your engine compartment and wire routing would be very helpful.
 
Ok, just thinking outside the box here for a moment..... how SURE are you that your "light miss" is ignition? Is it possibly?:
1. weak hydraulic lifter
2. timing off slightly
3. fuel filter
4. fuel pump
5. "smutz" on a valve seat
6. ????

Ok, went to the shop and grounded the shielding for the trigger wires in three places, wrapped in dead soft copper and put in a metal clamp and screwed to the fender well, ran the wires to the dist. via the front of the engine up about 6" and clamped to the front of the manifold, they are at least 6" from any thing that carries any current from the box to the dist. Its been snowing here today but as soon as it clears and dries up I am going to test it and find out if that is the problem. then,,,,,on to a 8&1/2 quart rear sump pan w/ external lines. Wish me luck, Dave.
