Locking Hood latch and Hood release on ‘65 Satellite

Hey All,

Just added a locking hood latch and inside hood release to my ‘65 Satellite.

Thought I’d share in case anyone wants to do something similar.

Aside from the actual hood latch and hood release cable, I ordered 3/16” clamps and nuts and bolts.

Hood latch was labeled as:
72 Dart 72-73 Fury Polara Monaco Newport New Yorker Hood Latch.

Hood release was:
Mopar 1972-74 A-Body Plymouth Valiant Dodge Dart Hood Release Cable 3695563

Hole made JUST above bottom driver side firewall plug.

(Plug reinstalled backwards here, need to fix)

If I could re-do it, I’d make the hole about 1/8” over, but it’s fine.

Just installed the pull handle straight from hole in firewall, doesn’t seem to get in the way of anything, easily accessible and visible.

Ran cable along inner driver side wheel well. Those clamps with the rubber really grip the cable sheath nicely.

Latch footprint is exact to the old one, so just two bolts come off, and the new one goes in.
Made holes in radiator support for the cable. There needs to be a clamp right next to the latch as seen here to avoid slop and loose pull feel. Also needed a stack of washers to clear the latch. Will replace with a spacer later.

And that’s it. Works nicely, doesn’t look weird in the interior, and no more vulnerable engine bay!!!
