Howdy all,

So my Charger seems to be telling me something. First the trunk lock stopped opening for the key, so I gotta replace the lock. Haven't gotten around to it for months on end. So Avocado Gold got annoyed at my laziness, and the drivers side lock stopped unlocking for the key as well.

Before I tear into these two issues, how much of a PITA am I looking at? I assume the trunk lock is easy, but the door lock seems like it could be a real pain.

Anyone replaced/fixed these locks before? Tips, tricks, how to go about it would be much appreciated by someone who isn't particularly mechanically inclined.

Thanks much in advance...

The door locks are pretty easy to access. Just pop off the door panel and pull out the little clip...of course there is the lock rod but nothing complicated. do one at a time so you can use one as a reference. Actually I think the trunk lock is probably more annoying since you have to contort to get to it.

The trunk lock is held in by a single nut that threads onto the lock. Mine was pretty easy to get off with just a paid of channel grips. Once you get the lock off, there's a bar that goes from the lock to the release mechanism and that just slides right out. Most new locks come with two or three different levers, so find the lever that matches yours, install it to the lock, slide the lever and lock through the trunk lid hole, put the the locking nut on, make sure the lever goes into the release mechanism hole, then tighten down the locking nut. Takes about five minutes.

BTW, the lock and levers are still being made and cost about $15 at Autozone so don't pay $60+ on ebay for a set. :)
