Hi All,

Not new to the forum...been creeping without posting for almost 9 years now...:realcrazy:
Anyways thought I should post here now that I've finally made an account.

I have a 1972 Plymouth Road Runner 340c.i. 4-barrel, 727 TF, 2500 TC, 8-1/4 RE 2.73s.

I've owned my RR since 2010 as a junior in high school. At 16 (without a permit) I bought a 1992 Firebird v6 t-tops with my life savings (est $1,800). Needed tires and paint so I found a crashed 1992 Camaro RS 305c.i parts car with good tires ($400). Drove the parts car home...loved the power. Decided to keep the Camaro and sell the firebird which wasn't even titled in my name yet. Spent the summer of 2009 restoring the Camaro in a horse barn (disassembled and gone thru completely -- new interior, undercoating, engine dress ups, exhaust, and all that fun stuff). Keep in mind I still don't have my license at this point and I've owned 2 cars now. After a cheap Maaco paint job I threw the Camaro on CL to see if I could make my money back and buy something even faster. A guy emailed one day 'interested in trades?'. Not really I responded but what do you have to offer. He sent me a picture of a red 72' RR that had been hit by an F250. Needed a hood, front cowl, driver fender. Keeping in my excitement I told him I might be interested. Next day he trailered the car to my house....BUT my Camaro wouldn't start randomly and he called off the trade:mad:. 2 days goes by and I figure out it was a measly coolant temp sensor that failed causing the TBI engine not to turn. Fixed it, called him back and drove my Camaro 1hr north to meet him in a nor'easter snow storm. He had the RR stored in a airport hanger near Orange, MA. At that point we traded titles and went our separate ways...left with a big ****-eating grin on my face. Who trades a 72 RR for a 92 Camaro RS not even a Z28?! :D The next day I began putting work in: straightening the fender with a truck jack and hammers (fender is welded to frame and not a off-shelf part) as well as a millions other tasks. Got it looking descent and took it to New England Classic Restorations in MA for a 75% paint job. Paint alone was $285 a qt so 75% was all I could afford. Shortly after I was able to register the car and by then I had my license. Having an RR in high school was surreal and now thats what I'm know for to this day. In the years following I've put thousands of dollars of work into her, including new paint in 2015 and probably 10 grand in gas...and she's going strong. Hope you liked my story...Meep meep, Tyler

You sure came out ahead on that deal!!

Welcome!

By the way I'm looking for a 8-3/4 rear end assembly. Yeah, yeah.. I already know that a 71-74 b-body rear is hard to find and I could put a 9.25 in IRDC. I've been looking half-assedly for 5 years or so but now I'm anxious and ready to swap.

Welcome back. That is an awesome story and I love your car however I am biased. I think you came out well ahead on that one.

Thank you! I just read your restoration, Beautiful 72 you got there as well man! I love the paint too, the black hood accents really tie it together with the wing on the back. Its going to be a bread winner for sure. Hope to tear mine down that bare and refresh the entire car someday.

Welcome back actually into the mix...

Welcome from Ohio.

Welcome from North Carolina Tyler. I love to see the younger generations get into the hobby. That is a sweet RR you have there, keep up the great work.
