trying to find information. I would like to locate, even though its a long shot my dads old car. he traded it in late 1984 to a car lot in Lakeland, fl because mom was pregnant with me, and was homesick, and wanted to move back to PA. he didn't want to drive it in the saltly roads up there. apparently they were only gone up there for a few months, before they came back to florida. dad went to the car lot and they told him the name of the guy that bought it and the address of where he lived. I guess dad went by there and nobody was home but he seen the hood leaning against the side of the house. and that was the last he ever seen of it in 1985. I have searched the guys name and seemed to have traced him to around the same area, but cannot find any contact info. i have searched for places to find a registration or most current registered owner with no luck. everyone has updated computer systems and most states all use the same. none i have found will work with anything but a 17 digit VIN. any info or help or suggestions as to what i could do is greatly appreciated. thanks.
DON'T GIVE UP!!! You are in a WAY better situation than me. And I FOUND MY DAD'S CAR!!! His was a 70 convertible. Moulin Rouge Pink. Bought it new. Sold it 18 months later to a car dealer. Never saw it again. I searched my ENTIRE life for it. and now, after more than 35 years of dreaming (Since I was 5 years old) and a sold 25 years of actual searching, I HAVE FOUND IT! It was bought from a junkyard in 1976 and then put into a barn for the next 39 years! This barn is 3 hours away from where it lived when new and where it was found in a junkyard. The place is in the middle of absolutely nowhere! And nobody has ever seen it. The owner never really showed anybody the car. It was at his parents place and he lived 4 hours away from it. So it was kind of forgotten about.
I did ALL the searches possible. Every forum or website I could find. Car shows, Swap meets, Mopar Nationals, you name it. I even worked at Ramchargers Speed Shop and questioned dozens of people daily. EVERYONE knew I was searching for this car.
But here's the deal..... SOMEBODY DOES KNOW about your dad's car. I promise you!
I found mine through FACEBOOK!!! I posted an ad on the Moulin Rouge / Panther Pink Facebook page. And numerous people were cool enough to re-post/share my story. It ended up finding its way to THIS page...

John reposted it here and a couple weeks later it got a hit from someone who knew of the car. He had spoke to the owner at a car show a few years ago and remembered the conversation about it. John sent me a text with a screenshot of the comment. I contacted that guy. He put me in with the owner. I got a loan from my boss. And now, I'm bringing my dad's long lost car home to restore!!!
DO NOT GIVE UP!
I feel your pain. There wasn't a day that had gone by in my life that I didn't think of this car! Once I started driving, I would ALWAYS search out the windows in garages, fields, barns, rundown neighborhoods, back yards, everywhere for this car. Because I always knew it was out there somewhere. Just waiting to come home.
Post your ad. Try to get it to John's page. He has a very big audience. Let the Mopar community help you.
Best of luck my friend. Keep me posted.
