I put a 440 in my 65 Coronet and tryin g to use the stock rad that originally had a 273. The problem is that the 440 water pump neck is 1 7/8" and the rad is 1 5/8". Has anyone else had this problem and how did you solve the different sizes?

It would be wise to get a big block radiator for that 440. I went with aluminum a champion radiator.... Before you know it, it will be summer again.

Ran a SB radiator in my Bee for years with the smaller lower spiggot, even had a corbin clamp on the stock lower hose and not a worm clamp. A good coat of RTV on the spiggot diameter and hose clamped in place. Never leaked...

The stock Radiator has been re-cored not long ago and is in great cooling shape, this is the reason for trying to make it work.

Aluminum rads work amazingly well and are not hard on the check book. With a stock to mildly built 440 you will never have cooling issues even on those hot summer days. One less thing to worry about while cruising.

You buy the pipe and proper reducers of whatever size you need.

On my charger I had a piece of smaller diameter hose that fit exactly inside the lower hose.
I cut about 1-1/2" off the smaller id, slid it on the radiator and put the lower hose right over it.
Works fine.

I took everyones advice and got the correct rad. Now in the future, I don't have to figure out what combo hoses I used to make the incorrect rad to work. And all are right about the cost of a Aluminum rad. Thanks All Ron
