WHY would you consider using this brand of ignition systems?? Especially since there are other more popular brands....MSD, Pertronix, Mopar and spare parts or assemblies availability are somewhat scarce......or are you trying to be unique? .....just curious....Has anyone used the mallory magnetic breakerless distributor, how does it wire up with or without ballast resistor?

Perhaps you meant to say: I understand that they're good distributors... not I hear there good distributors.. I ask again.....WHY WOULD YOU CONSIDER A MALLORY DISTRIBUTOR????......based on supposition, reputation or did someone give you one for free? FYI.....I USED TO have a MALLORY DOUBLE LIFE DISTRIBUTOR (in a '71 383 Mopar engine)......a dual point design using a 4 lobe cam, with special points at 90 degree to shaft center line, a huge external condenser and absolutely the worst method of securing the spark plug wires to the cap, a special rotor and a special cap......it's claim to fame is: each set of points handled only four cylinders, based on the premis that the points lasted twice as long....hence the name "DOUBLE LIFE".... IMO....A REAL PIECE OF ****......Did not perform any better than the Mopar single point distributor, was a PITA to recurve, and had no vacuum advance mechanism. I ran it for 3000 miles, then replaced it with the original single point distributor.Mallory is old school and hear there good distributors

ASK. @HALLIFAXHOPS on this site, for his recommendation....but stay away from MALLORY........just my thoughts......
BOB RENTON
All the more reason to not use it ......but you didn't answer the question: why?? Was it free? Why not a more popular brand? Check on parts availability.....or lack there of.....get an opinion from @HALLIFAXHOPS.......This mallory is electronic distributor not points
I got it fairly reasonableAll the more reason to not use it ......but you didn't answer the question: why?? Was it free? Why not a more popular brand? Check on parts availability.....or lack there of.....get an opinion from @HALLIFAXHOPS.......
BOB RENTON
Anything more than zero dollars is too much......what is "fairly reasonable"??....... you bought yourself an orphan with limited parts availability......now comes the questions: what coil to use, ballast resistor, spark plug wires, how do you curve it.......I got it fairly reasonable
Perhaps you should ask "THEY" wired up the Mallory distributor. If you don't know about such things, the best thing to do is take the car to someone who does. Arbitrarily connecting wires will definitely result in a sure failure. Perhaps you should sell what you have and buy and install a Pertronix system....only 2 wires...simplicity....Have any pics on how they wired up the mallory distributor?Says need you have to loom resistance wire positive side of coil.Whats loom resistance wire?or run wire to positive side of ballast resistor
Reading the instructions is easy to set up,what is loom resistance wire if run the positive side off coilPerhaps you should ask "THEY" wired up the Mallory distributor. I'll continue to endorse the PRESTOLITE DUAL POINT DISTRIBUTOR and original Mopar ignition system design in my RS23V0A ****** 1970 GTX.......what you believe in or what you think is "best" for your cars.....I don't care the least bit.......So, Bob, in other threads, you are recommending people stick with Chrys elec ign, but now recommending Pertronix...only 2 wires. Maybe the Malllory only has one wire....
Mallory is a 3 wire distributorSo, Bob, in other threads, you are recommending people stick with Chrys elec ign, but now recommending Pertronix...only 2 wires. Maybe the Malllory only has one wire....
TOO MANY CHOICES......using the statical sampling formula: 3 factorial......or 3x2x1 combination taken one wire at a time.....guessing which will be correct.......to see if it starts and passes the "smoke test".........experts????........Mallory is a 3 wire distributor
