How do I stop my 71 rr master cylinder cap From leaking? I think I have the bal pretty tight . Gasket been changed also. This is not the first master cylinder I’ve had that leaked. Poor design?

buy a first gen Dodge Cummins truck....the master leaks constantly.

Cast iron? Is the leak actually at the gasket and not seeping from a poor casting? What does the gasket surface on the MC look like? Nice and smooth with no rusty spots?

The 70 challenger I had leaked from the cover. It was the single bolt in the middle design, after two new gaskets, bought a new cover to see if that was the culprit. Stopped leaking after that, not sure if this is the same style as you have.

I’m not sure if it’s cast iron it’s from advance auto parts. No rust on gasket but some on the rim edge of master cylinder. I feel Moister the bottom of the master cylinder that’s after I drive.

If brake fluid is on the bottom of the master cylinder it could be from the brake lines, too. You probably should use Brakleen to clean the MC, then have someone in the car work the brake pedal while you watch the MC to determine where the leak(s) may be. If it is the cover, you could have a tight bail that is causing the MC to distort the gasket. Or it could just be a crappy casting that is not even, preventing the gasket from sealing. You can check that with a small straight edge.

I wish I could install a modern mc with no power brakes.

Check out DoctorDiff, Tuff Stuff Performance, or The Right Stuff and talk with their tech staff. If you really want to convert to manual they can probably help you do it.

I doubled up my gasket by making one out of a cork sheet for fel-pro worked out great.
