Ok on the new Master Cylinder there is a Piston Retainer !! Does that stay on or do you remove before installing MC.

The snap ring should be what holds the piston in the bore... If you have a pic that might help your cause/question...

That is what I thought, but some on another site says it stays on ???
 
I sure hope it stays on because I left mine on when I replaced it. I can't imagine how you could install it without it.
 
On the original there is a retainer with a rubber plunger seal and push rod. If you use that then remove the retainer. If not then I would leave the retainer on.
