I'm researching the decoding of vin numbers / engine numbers. The best I can figure there is nothing in the vin 3 of my 69 Road Runner that has an exact engine # in the vin? In the vin it does state a letter for 383 engine. I check the numbers on my engine and I can tell the engine was cast in Nov. 68, the engine was assembled in 1969. Is this the only way of telling if the engine was the exact same engine for this car?

For 69 and later, the partial (or sometimes full) VIN is found on a machined pad on the passenger side block skirt near the pan rail. If your VIN is RM21H9G111111 the number on the block will likely read 9G111111.

First off....
The 1969 model year cars "production" begins in something like August 68.
So yes, late 1968 , Sept, Oct, Nov engine casting will be on the 1969 cars.

I "think" on Mopars, there is a set of numbers that coincide with the VIN as Meep-Meep says..
