Meanwhile in Florida.....

Even after 11 years and a few days, the memories of my only hurricane (that bitch Katrina) are as fresh as yesterday.
Stock up and stay safe!!
Lived in this area since 63 and have been through several but Ike is the one that makes me want to move away from living close to the coast....

Cranky I'm so glad I got my in-laws off of Galveston.... I don't know how many times I would run down there and start hauling stuff , boarding up, in preparation every time a storm looked liked it would target this tx coast....

Hope you Fla. guys stay safe. Seems like most people get in trouble trying to drive through water during these storms. Always amazes me that people will drive off into water when they don't have any idea how deep it is.

Haven't you heard? A good number of us Floridians are pretty damn stupid. That's a rule that seems to exist down here.

A buddy of mine lives in Bayou Vista and said the surge was over 10'when Ike came in! I'm surprised it didn't wash out the whole area. I-45 had some big boats left on it when the tide left....

Steve lived down in Sea Isle past Jamaica Beach, there were time that a low would come in and about two miles of 3005 would go under... Ile had about 4-5 ft surge. He lost everything we couldn't get out from down stairs...

Rita was an eye opener, we had worked about 30 straight boarding up both houses, loading both trucks trailers ect... We were taking a break drinking a beer listening to the weather and Rita was predicted to hit Galveston dead on, then they were talking about a 20-25' surge... We looked at each other & said oh ****, mind you were up on the deck which was 14' off the ground. I said well all this boarding up is a moot point, and he replied that he worked his whole life for it and just couldn't walk away. It took me 5 hrs to get back to my side of town the day before the storm hit and I left there at 2am all due to the Katrina fiasco a month or two earlier...

Luckily for him the storm turned and went to Boliver, felt sorry for those poor people... When we were allowed back on the island the only way you could tell any thing happened was the welcome mat was blown to the other end of the deck....

I have some pics of Galveston right after Ike, I'll have to find them... Well no-one was allowed on the island for two weeks but they were unbelievable....

I keep wanting to avoid this thread ... but my concern for my fellow motorheads keeps bringing me back, along with my own flood of memories.
Chances are good that without her, I'd still be working as a paralegal instead of making Powder **** for you guys, I wouldn't be living in Bum #$% Egypt Tennessee, I wouldn't be a party in a class action lawsuit against AIG more than a decade later, and I wouldn't have this pic of a kitchen on my phone before our ceiling fell in.

Leanna, where were you living when you got hit by Katrina? Been in a lot of storms but have only left twice. My X was so freaked out that I loaded up the car and headed out right at the height of everyone else leaving. Kinda figured that but didn't expect such a mass exodus. Now a days, we either leave very early or very late. When Ike came in, a buddy left for his parent's in San Antonio and it took him 19 hours to go 200 miles! Leaving very late seems to be the best time because the roads are totally empty. Can't remember the name of the storm that we ran from but it turned out it was for naught but Ike was one that we probably should have ran from. We were ready to go and when the time came to make the decision, my wife said she'd rather stay so we did. Night time storms suck.....

I was in Luling, Louisiana about 25 miles West of New Orleans. We didn't suffer the flooding, just two tornadoes. The first ripped a 40-pound sheet of roof tin off, and the second ten minutes later took most of the rest of the roof. Nine hours of heavy rain saw us with battery drills and 3/4" bits driven through the original hardwood floors (his house was built in the 1860s) just trying to let the water out.
We moved in with Billy's parents the next day.
96 DAYS LATER, an adjuster finally showed up. By then, the whole house was a vicious science experiment with mold a foot thick on the interior walls.

Nothing could save it ... and stupid us, we listened to the insurance company rep who told us mot to touch anything. So much could have been saved ...

My car, its uninstalled parts, and some clothes were about all I had afterwards. The real kicker was finding out that I wasn't listed as an insured on the homeowners policy.
My car survived -- my attitude, not so much.

How is everyone in Fl, Ga, & Carolinas? I haven't watched the news in a couple of days...
I hope y'all are all safe!

Glad you made it out though Leanna, all the material things can be replaced in time....Katrina was a bad b$!@h...
Don't get me started on insurance, I rank them right up there with lawyers, politicians and the plague....they promise coverage but always find a loophole...

Dang. When I got flooded due to a tropical storm (got water 3 times before I said to hell with it and moved), the agent told me the same thing but I told him I was going to remove anything that was wet so I could dry out the place and that I would take plenty of pics. The house had a package unit AC up in the back gable so it was high and dry and that helped out a bunch once the electricity came back on which it did pretty quickly. Under the carpet was hard wood flooring but with the AC turned down and several fans, things dried out pretty fast. At 65 years of age, I sure hope we never have to go through that crap again but I know it's going to happen sooner or later....

We're doing fine down here (I'm on the east coast of FL.) But my buddy (he bought the 3 on the tree charger) he took his boat to work the past two days instead of the car his completely under water there he said I didn't believe him but picture s don't lie here's a few of what he sent me . By the way that's the rare 3 on the tree charger under that tarp it almost floated away .
This storm isn't that bad we've made it threw Andrew and the 2004 b.s. it's just another day people just need to grow a set and deal with it .
