Finally, after sitting for nearly 30 yrs I can no longer say I'm one of those guys who will not sell the car but will fix it one of these days. Well, "one of these days" has arrived. After extensive review I decided to have a shop in OR do the body and paint on this car because if left to my own devises it will sit for another 30 yrs! And I'm not letting just anyone touch this car! The shop is Muscle Car Alley in Williams OR. Mike DeVee is a great guy and most importantly listens to the customer! There are some things on this car that I want done a certain way and after going over the details we arrive at a solution. The end of the day I defer to his expertise. Here are pics of the progress.

Congrats on breaking ground! Have you and the shop agreed on a timeline? Looks like the stripping down part is well underway.

Say, have you got a picture of it just sitting in the corner all these years? Might be nice to add to it here so when it's completed down the road we'll have the full before & after shots. :)

hot damn Alex!! great to see you aren't going to turn into a "one of those days" guys! lol

congrats and good luck HERMANO!! I will be waiting with baited breath on further progress!

Nice! And I thought I was waiting a long time to get things rolling! 30 yrs is a while to wait and watch, but, 30 yrs ago, these cars were very disposable, For Sale signs and these could be had for 2-3 thousand dollars!

Alright!!! Welcome to the Guys Restoring Road Runners club!!! Glad to have you along so I can check out your thread and learn... :hello2:

Congrats! Nice to see your getting started on the Bird.

Nice looking project. 30 years - that's along time to be putting off a resto. Must be a special car to you? Please get some pics. up from before blasting and fill us in on the plan going forward.

Thanks guys! Yep, this is the same 68 RR I bought Feb 2nd 1982 for $450.00. Drove it in HS with a hot 383 (mid 13 sec at the time) then ran a 426 MW in it for a while. And I cut a big hole in the floor to put a 4 spd in it. There, I confessed. I always wanted this car to be nice but I never had enough money to completely go through it right. Even though you could still get parts from the dealer back then the price was astronomical to me and the aftermarket was pretty much non existent for these. But I couldn't bear to part with it because it's a huge part of my life. Here are some pics shortly after I got it and how it was with the one cheap paint job I had done in the late 80's. I'll say the Nor Cal climate treated her well as this is the extent of the damage. And it's never been in a garage since I owned it.

This pic was in the local paper in the automotive section. Still has the vinyl top so had to be within a year of me owning it. The car is going back exactly the way it was when I got it, slot mags and all. The mags were installed by the previous owner and it sat at least 5 yrs before I bought it, so all day two mods from the 70's. Perfect!!
