If not for the generation before baby boomers, you'd be speaking German. Or Japanese. No baby boomers? That is the generation who brought us these wonderful muscle cars. World is on their plate and they have done little to do with it.

Right, baby-boomers are the babies of those people who saved the world from the Germans and the Japanese. And? But anyway Dennis, you're just reinforcing my point... the labels don't mean anything. It's just a copout to generalize things that can't be so easily generalized.

For instance "millenial".. there's actually no official definition that everyone agrees to. Most commentators (read "media") insinuate that millenials are those born between 1980-2000, or thereabouts. TWO DECADES. That's a lot of generalization. And I guess that makes me a millenial too. A debt free, married with a kid, independent, college and post graduate educated, law abiding, home owning, tax paying, firearm owning, military millenial. Stereotypes are easy and maybe fun.. but they're not accurate.

My kids are of that generation. Both are awesome kids. So are their friends. Much better than me in the '70s. I think it's easy to poke fun but it just ain't the truth. My daughter has graduated college and has good job. My son is halfway though college in Mechanical Engineering. What did you major in?

Living it up was responsible for the timing. Remember, that was pre most diseases when life was good. Took 15 years off between wife one and (last) wife two to make up for it.

Just like Baby Boomers are supposed to be from 1945-ish to 1965-ish
pretty damn broad range of years too, that's never been really defined IMO properly either...
Just a term for people & prosperity, good times, people leaving the crowed inner-shity &
moving to the suburbs, for a better life style, less crime, cleaner/neater,
nice little houses all in a row, manicured lawns a new Chrysler & a Station Wagon,
you know that Norman Rockwell type stuff...
But it was only after the wars/conflicts & it was one of our nations largest
single growth spurts...
I personally believe that actual "Baby Boomers" are more from
1946-ish those born shortly after WWII, when soldiers got back,
a really randy group before the pill !!
to 1955/56-ish that maybe stretching it, for those born after the Korean War Conflict,
another batch of really randy groups, that helped grow the population & economy,
home sales, building, shopping, spending etc. etc. etc. drastically...LOL

To give the next generation a better life, not screw it up like they have now,
especially those that came of age in about 1969-ish, the hippies, std's &
the start of govt. entitlement era...

In my generation {I was born 1959} it was all about over population,
not having as many kid, sustaining resources, space travel, killing socialism,
using the pill/birth control, planning your family, peace love pot & disco...

Oh boy...how did I miss this thread???
First up, I am both entertained by the song and annoyed by it. Where does the blame lie though? Remember the eternal conundrum "Nature VS Nurture"?
If parents follow the trends of their time, their children may be the direct result of that time. Years ago, this stuff began. Every participant gets a trophy, people were encouraged to express their feelings, question authority....all these things have led to selfish behavior.
Remember when people were raised to respect their elders? Remember when we didn't look to our fathers as "friends" but as the "man that pays the bills"?
TV and media have been beating down the importance of the Male role model for years. The Father is often portrayed as an idiot in TV sitcoms. This certainly has had an effect on the erosion of the respect for elders.
I am not saying that the young are without blame. I am saying that they have been steered down a shitty road and been left UNprepared for the real world. SOME of them are clueless, entitled wimps that expect paid days off, raises without putting in extra effort and "feel-good" kudos every time they do anything. Maybe they are glued to their phones and living with their parents because of many reasons as yet unmentioned.
I remember wanting to drive a car from before I went to school. This was just part of my nature. Some guys wanted to have cool cars to be able to get the better looking chicks. If the current young generation's women tolerate pansy, wimpy guys, the guys have no incentive to Man Up. If the women are not turned off by guys living at home at 30, guys getting manicures, eyebrow waxing, sipping corporate coffee and driving a boring white 4 door Corolla, they may continue to be that way. The internet has made cruising for chicks totally obsolete. We used to get into our Hot Rods and drive around the town looking for girls to flirt with. Today they can get on any number of "personal" or social network websites and meet up within an hour.
The blame for the sorry state of todays youth can be found in many places. The sad thing is, WE feel ours is the right way and THEY feel that theirs is. How do we bridge that gap?

More youth bashing by a bunch of miserable old men whom if i recall were mostly products of the greatest generation and all in all had more opportunities and a simpler life than the young of today. Another thing i have to ask just who are the parents of these kids some like to bitch about. Not any of the ones doing the complaining of course,not my kid,maybe someones else's,I'm sure thats the attitude. The facts are these kids will defend us with the same courage as the kids that joined the military in the days after 9/11 and there defended us today. They will become the doctors and medical professional's to take care of us.. Recently i bought a new printer and there was a service advertised with it for a tech person to come out to your home set it up and show you whatever,so bought that service to. The kid that came was very earlier 20's. He took public transportation from were he lived to my house which had to take him a easy hour and a half,plus he walked a few miles. A really nice kid,so we get to talking about what he does,what is his ambitions. Of course he had a half way decent job in the city,had went to some tech college and had a degree in computers but got layed off and had to take this job. He was a minority living at home with his single mother and younger brother. I gave the kid some advise about a civil service newspaper,encouraged him to apply for all civil service jobs,things like that. I mentioned one job i knew of that paid about high thirties or forty G a year with benefits and his eyes lit up. He told me that kind of money would be a dream come true. He finished and i gave him a 20 dollar tip and i thought he'd faint. I drove him to the ferry so he didn't have to take another bus. Thats the kind of job thats left for these kids you want to bitch and moan about. Whose fault is it? We fathered them and we raised them so look in the mirror and save the when i was a kid stories for your friends as that was then and this is now

They're a problem that was caused by their parents. Their parents are too stupid to see that they created this vast group of self-absorbed, whiny, pussies. Add a public school system that created both groups....and you have the dumbed-down, entitled, over-sensitive, losers, that will be non-capable of running their own lives....let alone a country. But don't worry....the government will see to their needs to "exist" and be servants.
