So I did the Borgeson steering box and love how the car handles (Went from manual to power) I used the Borgeson to Mopar coupler adapter but the problem is the hydraulic noise from the box that transfers through the column is annoying. I personally can't stand rattles/squeaks in a car.

As per Borgeson if I don't use their coupler which has urethane in it to stop the sound transfer then I have to live with it or go to a Firm Feel Mopar box.

To use their coupler means chopping the end of the shaft for the u-joint style coupler. Opinions?

Steering columns for A body cars are plentiful. Finding one to modify if you want to keep your original one intact is one way to go.

Your screen name is 71 Duster and you didn't mention a Belvedere in the opening post.
If you want help, you need to be more clear. What did you expect people to think ?

ask Bergman Autocraft, a sponsor on this site, if they have a suggestion or solution

i purchased the borgeson setup from bergman; already had Mopar power steering on my 66 Coronet. purchased the setup along with a special coupler that Bergman makes; not cutting required if this couple is used if i recall correctly. no squeaks or rattles on my setup.

hope they can help

I have the Bergman adapter and according to Borgeson that's why I have the hydraulic noise in the car. Was trying to not bring up names and make his product sound poor because it does fit very well and works as advertised.

I have talked to Bergman as well but he didn't have any answers on stopping the sound. At first I thought it was an issue with the box but no one else agrees.

Columns for a 67 are tough to find, I found mine in a rotted out car in a field and just swapped the shaft when I went from power to manual.

hmm...maybe the 66 Coronet column assembly is different than the 67 Belvedere

i did stuff some double sided foiled insulation into the tube about 4-5inches deep into the open end in the engine bay area. then capped it with a home depot plumbing section rubber cap for pvc. i didn’t want to pay the $$ for the mopar piece.

no noise for me but i was getting heat sent straight up the column. wrapped as much i could

check your belt tension for the pump. fluid level in pump staying steady?

Belt tension is good and the level seems ok. The column defiantly get hot at the bottom/firewall area but I had attributed that to my headers.

I think 67 was the first year for the collapsible column so the shaft is a 2 part design with plastic shear pins. Might look at mine some more to see if I can wrap or cover parts as well.

I have a 66 Charger with the Borgeson box/u joint and a 67 Charger with the Borgeson box and Bergman coupler, can't say as I notice any noise or differance in the operation of either car.
After doing both conversions my observation was that since the Borgeson box is unlike the OEM box in that the shaft intersects the steering column at an angle you can not go by the FSM directions as far as setting the "plunge" depth in the Bergman pot coupler. Photo shows how mine ended up, trying to shove the shaft further into the pot coupler as per FSM results in binding.
