has anybody used part # P4452783 mopar 458 cam in their 383? Im thinking about puttin one in my 383. i want to make it run like an HP motor would do. is it a good cam to use for a stock acting 383 HP?

guess im just gettin tired of the big cams and tryin to get everything right, such as convertor, gears etc, just gonna put it back to stock running form cuz hey 335 hp still not bad and my car is no racer i just love to cruise around in it and enjoy the day instead of worrying about if im gonna make it back home or not.

Yea I agree. The factory spent millions of dollars on research and development, not to mention years of experience in the real world of daily drivers. So when I bolted my first single plane intake on my 68 RR 413, was a little surprised that it had noticably less bottom end and throttle response! Even top end wasn't much better than stock. Ha ha. Even a recent change over on a 77-440 that had 452 heads, and iron intake with a Holley spread bore carb, semmed a little more torque at low end. More than the Performer RPM and 906 heads. But this combo definitely worked better at 3000 plus RPM! This a low compression later 440. 8.5 to 1 C/R.

I run P4452783 camshaft in 383 RR and have cruised it for years. It acts just like the vintage original that it replaced. It's easy to drive and does what it's supposed to without a lot of dramarama. Sometimes I get curious and think about trying something else, then I close the hood and think, "Not today."

The .458 cam is the repo of the Road Runner or factory HP cam. You will want about 9.5:1 compression with it though.

the 272-.455 cam runs surprisingly well.

How does it run as a street cam; low speed, off-idle & part throttle. Is it a full-throttle high rpm-type camshaft in the 383, or does it have good street manners?

the one i have in a 9.3:1 compression 440 has very good low and mid rpm. when i had the 6-pak on the engine it was a 5200-5400rpm max. with a stock 4bbl, maybe 5000rpm; gobs of torque. a 383 will be 200-300rpm higher. the .455 lift is about right for unmodified heads and exhaust.

This is the factory cam so it has to do everything from idle, start in cold weather, pass the warranty period, etc... It will work well for a stock to mild performance engine. If you want to err on the performance side then use the next one up - the .455" / 272.

Khemi, Stygia?? Is that around East Rutherford New Joisey? :eusa_think:
