I don't know the reason why but I believe, on the stainless steel tail panel on the trunk face there was a colored roadrunner decal. I agree the door RR decals were all black - no color. (for '68 only)Why did Plymouth use the black and white Road Runner bird on the 68 model?
A friend of mine bought the first RoadRunner sold by a major dealership in nearby London. Ontario, in September, 1967 for $3000.00. It was a coupe (as all early ones were), in Bronze with an AM radio. The car also had automatic, and 3.55 gears with SureGrip. I thought the car was very plain, especially the interior. When I saw my first RoadRunner with the Decor Group, I thought it was a huge improvement.I don't know the reason why but I believe, on the stainless steel tail panel on the trunk face there was a colored roadrunner decal. Now that stailless steel trunk panel was standard only on hardtop models and coups that received the "decor option" #360 which
included - Stainlless Pillar Moulding, Rear Armrests with Ashtrays, Deck Lid Trunk Panel (where the decal was applied on the passenger side, with name plate (decal) and Partial Horn Ring Steering Wheel.
If I'm not mistaken, when the RR first came out sometime Aug 1967, the car was only availabe as a coupe RM21.
The hardtop version RM23 was'nt available til after the 1st of the year 1968.
All the above discription of items in the "decor option" were standard on all the RM-23 hartops.
