Was that engine sitting in shallow salt water to keep a boat from floating off ?
Edit : saw this post before your initial one. I see it was really in salt water.
That looks pretty bad.

disclaimer;
this really should be in another part of the forum
or combined with your 1st welcome wagon thread

did it have water in the pan ?
does it have a cracked block or split sleeve/cylinder
or blown head gaskets ?

water & something else corrosive sure did a number on it
on all the **** in & around that pan

I've never seen an engine with that dried up residue like that
Maybe ?
almost loooks like it ran on alcohol,
last time out, with some highly alcohol deluted oil
(or some other chemical ?) causing that 'baby **** colored oil'
especially when running methanol
(methanol, it will eat & corrode aluminum)
like it had shitty rings/bad sealing/tons of blow by,
a lot of alcohol/methanol getting by & "settled in the pan",
& it makes for a yellowish baby **** looking brew
& was overfilled with the diluted ****/oil
then;
also left it in there & it sat for years with that **** still in it,
eating away at the parts until it dried out/up

just a wild *** & educated guess
seen something like that in a combined/split fuel tank/Oil tank for drysump
in an old TA/FC before
But nothing that bad thou...

good luck

He says the engine went through hurricane Sandy so it was in salt water.
Don’t know the exact circumstances though.

yeah I didn't see that lil' fact
until I read his 1st welcome wagon, second

submerged & then saltwater sitting in there for over 10+ (2012 ?) years
could do that 'maybe' too

I never saw one that bad, ever
& not many hurricanes here

like I said;
or 'something else corrosive'
my wild *** "educated" guess :rolleyes:

Looking at that mess would make me want to start over with another block! Just my 2 cents. ruffcut

yes i shouldve combined it newb mistake. It sat for about 15 years he had oil in it but just left it there. it was bench tested then stored. supposedly. water came thru the headers go. guy never added oil to it dropped the pan nothing. such a shame. im gonna try to save it.
block is saveable believe it or not all that crud came off. no cracks. the sand in the salt water absorbed all the oil. Machine shop has it may have to bore .020 .030 over.
crank is saveable have to turn it .20 over

Looks a lot better cleaned up.
what does it look like from underneath now?
If that block survived that then damn these blocks are solid.

I didn't want to hit it with a pressure washer. I just took it to the machine shop but this when i tore it down this past weekend. It's my first mopar tear down. They are super strong blocks i agree.

Machined surfaces look pretty good in the pics. Can the machine shop mill the oil pan surface?
its actually pretty solid all the way around. some gasket material that's stuck on there. they have it I'm waiting to get it back. the machine shop said itll look all stock again. lets see...
