Most American Gun?

I don't think there is just one gun, it depends on discussion and point of view, however here are some contenders

1895 Winchester lever action rifle
Colt peace maker
Colt 1911
M1 Garand
M2 Browning MG
AR15/M16
Colt 1911 was the first one that popped in my head…such an iconic American symbol.

I think we need to define "Most American". What exactly makes one gun more American than another? I lost count of how many different guns people have suggested, and many of them I never even heard of. Best selling? Most represented in film? Most used in war-time? Most familiar name?

Whatever John Wayne, Chuck Connors, or Clint Eastwood carried.

Sometimes we forget that Canada is also American. (Does Canada consider itself American? )
So how about some Canadian guns?

My 1943 Colt 1911A1. 99% original condition.
However, I believe the M1 Garand, is most American.

General George S. Patton famously called the M1 Garand rifle the "greatest battle implement ever devised," praising its reliability, speed, and semi-automatic power that gave American soldiers a huge edge over enemies using bolt-action rifles. He wrote this in a 1945 letter to the Chief of Ordnance, highlighting its semi-automatic operation, eight-round capacity, and accuracy as key to its superiority in World War II.

Well, there's North American Arms, made some(less than 500?) 1911's before WWII. Lowest output of any 1911 manufacturer.

What is a gun by definition in Canada. One of my friends who was in the Navy described guns as the mounted ones on ships.
I think this should be about firearms that ordinary people purchased for protection, hunting etc. Including handguns, long rifles and shotguns. Not include military firearms, or derivatives.
My vote is the 1894 Winchester 30-30.
It was mentioned in one of the hunting/ sports magazines many years ago. Stated that the 30-30 harvested more game than any other rifle. Shot every big game animal in North America.

Still have my first 22. Cooley single shot that my parents gave me on my 13th birthday. Shot rabbits for the pelts, fed the carcass to our cats and made money.
My father’s older hunting partner said if you can get two rabbits with one shot you are good. I did it once, but put it down to good luck. He congratulated me anyway.
