No, it just now happened according to AP reports. I get a news feed on my laptop for breaking live news...
 
No flights into Hawaii for a while. Hope everyone was smart enough to evacuate. May God be with those that didn't
 
I expect everyone is currently scrambling to get their reports out on the wire services...and trying not to die...

Reports so far say 37 homes were wiped out...this was 28 minutes ago..by Reuters via Tweets from the USGS.
 
I was near MT St Helens when it went up. NOT pretty.

It's been spewing ash clouds for a couple days
been puking & spewing ashes
then fishers in the ground & lava flows
for well over a week
this morning is the bigger one "so far"

I saw photos yesterday
of a dude playing golf nearby locally
with a huge plumage of ash, going up behind him
they just kept playing on
I guess the wind was in the other direction :lol:

there's been evacuations for almost a month now
some were voluntary until they got lava really close
then had to evacuate

They are telling the people be prepared for a mandatory evacuation

I know they are use to volcanoes in Hawaii,
been going on in some shape or form for ever
it's what made the islands after all !!
but they are acting :fool: awfully nonchalant :screwy:

Well, it's not in downtown Honolulu after all. lol.
 
Sometimes, yes. Other times they explode violently. Or spew dry ash and cinders and make brilliant night displays. I just thought I'd update because it's been a couple of years since this one was last in the news.

In spite of it being a large volcano it's been pretty docile... Usually when lava & water meet there's a violent reaction... Here the water just boiled away... Yes they've lost a few houses but honestly WTF were they thinking building houses that close to an active volcano & particularly on the side where lava is known to flow...

Next thing people in places like New Orleans will build their houses below sea level...
