I need opinions

i have a 1971 charger i want to put a tint on the windows after paint and body is complete but im unsure how dark would be enough. i dont want to go real dark , i dont think muscle cars look good with too much tint .But i do want enough so the tint actually does its job and looks decent. any suggestions?

First check your state window tinting laws...the vary from state to state ,, but from what I have read generally 35% see thru is acceptable..
I have a 2 tone maroon and smoke on mine...on the rear windows I'm using 5% see through..( illegal as hell in some states) on the back, graduating to 35% on the fronts.. now most people are using the same optic percentage on fronts and rears so depending on what your state allows you should be able to find what you need and what Is PLEASING to ur eye...
http://www.tintcenter.com/ read this link over and it will give you some ideas...

X 2 Check your state laws... When i was finishing my car i bought some tint, i think it was around 50 percent, But a friend of mine stopped in one day and when he walked in the garage and seen the rolls i bought from Auto-Zone he asked me if it was legal, I never thought about it being legal so i called the PSP and they said it was legal as long as it was not more then the 35 mentioned... When i took them back i got my money but they didn't have any that tint, so i just gave up the the thought at the time and didn't do it. I just wanted it to look good is all, but lightly because of night and then finding out didn't want the hassle of finding them.. I do think they look real good and i thank you PoppaSmurf for that link..

I have had 20% and 35% on my cars (modern ones). I will say IMO that 20% or darker isn't practical if you live out in the country. It makes it very hard to back up unless you have some really bright back up lights. 35% looks great on my black CTS. I would ask a shop to hold up (tape up) 35% on one side and 50% on the other side on your car to figure out what fits your taste.

My son is a cop in one of the Michigan towns that the Woodward Cruise runs through. He told me that they have been ordered to ticket anyone with any kind of tint (except factory) as well as antique plate cars driving around and loud mufflers. Guess they need the money.

Glad I'm not in Michigan. Sounds like they're just looking for reasons to ticket people, and assume most people would rather just pay the ticket than take the time to challenge it in court.

34% Viper tint all the way around on my new Charger. PA is pretty strict and I havent had any issues yet:

I think that they also believe that anyone coming from out of state for the cruise would not take the extra time to fight a ticket in court.

That's REALLY illegal, funny though, never heard of town going after every tinted car, seems that would make for the officers stopping just about every car made, because how else can you tell if it is factory or not.

That town sounds like it is run by REAL idiot's!!!

You would hate my cars, but I live in the south where tinting is a practically a requirement. I love tinted cars, if it done right, but to each there own.

Some states have a max of 20% and they WILL fine you, even if you are out of state. Ask me how I know!!

I like the tint myself, Im just not one who likes it black as old coals back side is all, I like it lightly tinted, i think it makes the older cars like ours look good.. My own opinion, like you said Randy, but i see nothing wrong, Pa is against everything there is, period.

up here in our town and area they will ticket if too dark, forget the percentage # though. my escalade is tinted, factory from the south and they pulled me over, blah blah, blah. asked him how he could give me a ticket on the side of the road with out haveing some sort of a meter and it was a factory tint. we parted ways at that point. he wasn't real happy and now i am nervous sometimes when driving when i am border line.:dink:

Living in AZ. where EVERY car has some kind of tint on it, this dark tint ticket issue has never been contested. The real reason for it is for the saftey of the officer's that are stopping people. They have to be able to see the people inside of the car and if they are holding a gun when they approach the car. I can certainly understand that.
