Just used a air eraser to make my $30 valve covers look a little better

Looks good. There are lots of possibilities when you think outside the box.
I did this to a cheap slant six valve cover. (not the best picture)

OK, I'll bite, what's an air eraser? Looks like you might have fine grit blasted over a masked area? Anyway, looks good and a clever solution.

Was thinking the same thing......or is it more like an air brush?

Its a small air brush size blaster. Not sure what the media is, maybe aluminum oxide? I think these are mostly used by artists for doing glass etching and what not.
Here is a demo of one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtBaG58P5gc

I think 1968RRTexas use of one is the best application I have seen of its potential for automotive applications.

Pretty cool man!

I bought my wife her air eraser from harbor freight for around $25. I of course had to set it up and get it working. We did some orders for etched glasses and I did some stuff on metal to see how it turns out. So i took a risk and tried it on chrome. Its by no means, perfect. But it was a free cool thing to do to "my" car. I dont know if i should even bring up the blast cabinet i built out of a storage bin, toilet flanges, and gloves, lol.

The slant six valve cover uses 1/8 chrome trim and black paint. Cost just a couple of bucks because I had both items already on hand. Anyway, cheap 'fins'.

How did you mask off the valve cover so nicely?

My wife has a machine called a sillhouette cameo that cuts vinyl, fabric, paper...She has a special vinyl for stencils that I used. Its awesome vinyl that doesnt allow bleed through with paint and for my purpose, doesnt allow the aluminum oxide to get under the stencil. The machine was expensive, but it has paid for itself 3x over with all the stuff she does and sells. If you want, I can design whatever and just mail you a stencil for you to use with paint or air eraser if you choose to get one.
