My Late Brother Will's Chopped Oval Bug, by Bladecutter

Greetings to All, a Happy New Year! First, my Thanks go out to Joey for letting me back, and Ski for not letting go, staying on me to Blend....... I missed All You Guys and dug reading the chime ins today on my old ego thread. Some of You have seen photos of my Bro's chop on some old threads that Photon, Habib and newer one Dennis H posted over past few months. I am now the Custodian and rebuilder of what is now a Family Heirloom, sometime later down road, my Nephew's Son will be in line for car, but my ultimate Hope is that car will end up being donated to the Steven's Historical Society.

Will and I both started messing in bodywerk @ same time in 73....He started the Bug in 77 and was driving the 1st gen in early 79. 3 1\2 years hobbyist experience and He brought down a roofline nicely raked..... Sure, it's got mud in it, 38 year old unchecked mud and I'm Proud as Hell of My Brother. Now that im45 years into sandbox, I'll never drop a roof. Poto of Bug in day can be seen on thread Dennis started, Bladecutter Update.... a picture of a book photo..... Car was In a few magazines in day. the front and rear clips were in bad shape, so I have trimmed off aprons and car will be fenderless for now... As it stands I have a Lexus 4 litre 4 cam alum v8 to hang off the Porsche 911S axle that's in it, but a slight chance I might get a smaller, Alfa Romeo v8. The bug is also cross drill discs all around and the front suspension is the kind, built by a Lotus vet, an Extreme Talent, the welds are near flawless. So enough chatter from little brother, soon as I get accustomed to New 4lg and can export photos, I'll start posting pictures sequentially of progress so far and to come, hoping to have motor hanging on car in 2 weeks, with new wheels and tires on,... Strange, I'm a canyon carver @ heart, but I'm going total street rod stance, skinny front, wide rear, with a 3" stagger in diameters..... I'm shooting for old school salt coupe look. So when I got some goods in row, I'll get em on Here. It's Great to be back Y'all..... Peace Folks.. BC

Welcome back. Good to hear you.

Waiting for verizon to remove thumbs from butts and get the darned PC turned on so navigating and typing will be better accomplished. Photon, if You happen to read, i talked to Andrew @ stack inj in aussie land today.......think we have our horse, seems a sweet induction with a wide range o parameter manipulation in box, guess im going new wave. Everybody, im speaking of replacement stack injection and brain to replace the toyota gear on the the 4 cam 8....Photon is Man who supplied me w link and info on unit originally and kept me fed w other info while i had no net access. Thank You Photon.........Super Bee Ski is the Man Who stayed on top of my absence and as arbitrator with Joey to call Truce and let me back with provision i dont stir up crap...

Don't know ya, but welcome back man. Nice bug. Like the flames.

Thanks Guys, in about another month the Chop will really start taking shape was Lexi in rear. Found a very nice radiator/fan set up fully shrouded in aluminum. Stay tuned while I scratch my head getting through this..... Our Generation G T O Z project from AZ will be achieving up any day now. Bringing show up to speed, now partnered up in F A A approved properly shop, Aero Propeller Company. Lot going on in sculpture world too, I have real important hook up with a popular artist Who is KIA designer...Life has been very busy of late, but clicking along wonderfully..... Anyone Who cares to see some of the sculpture can go to Blades Ego thread, Sculpture, Cars and Airplanes. ....Bruzilla, I'm very unhappy that Neil Young is supporting an f-ing democrat, sometimes curve balls come from out of left field, sure surprised hell out of me

I got a nice comp just now.....
Couple Old School Gents just dropped off a 150 prop for overhaul......one of them walks up to chop and sez holy ****, that looks like a Lotus Seven front end! As I said, He who built front end worked with Colin Chapman in 60's and He built Lotus Super Seven chassis & suspension. He also built the prototype Arntz Cobra and Steve arntz dicked Him.... F-in jock prick. If You could see how damned tight the welds are on the subframe, control arms etc, all chrom-moly. The front spindles are type lll vw....the way he added the mod knuckles for the race rack tie rod end to spindles is beautiful as he did on rear carrier arms to take the rear facing 914 calipers. BTW, I think I found adapting rings so I'll be able to put four piston Wilwoods all around and a proportioning valve in system.......# 1, my Bible is all about solid controllable braking, car needs to stop faster than it accelerates ideally. Lexus 4 litre weighs 400 full Lexi dress & accessories... I'm only running alternator, maybe water, If I cant find an electric water pump, so I should be able to bring weight down roughly 50 lbs, but not just extra weight, but pushed farther back due to length... The Lexi is 25 3/4" long... The vw 15.5"......vw1600 is roughly 250 lbs. So along with radiator(ahead of front wheels) I'll run dead ballast just ahead of cowl to re-bias my weight, f-r. As said previously, in old days we hung the buick/olds poncho 215 alum blocks off bugs and buses. The 215 long block is 320 lbs. The 215 hooked to swing axle behaved like a straight fender 911.....the 215 clamped to I R S axle was better than the straight 911..... a stock I R S bug out stuck and broke limits far better than 911imo, broke neutral, no lift throttle over steer and tolerant of sloppiness, any body that's driven serious sideways with any 911 type knows that it's a finessed balancing act beyond limits of adhesion, and that *** will come around at the slightest sloppiness, very unforgiving, as bad as my old Mangusta was over edge. I want 300hp(250 stock)and car will weigh about 1600lbs complete, with that power to weight, 100-200 on top, dead wt. Isn't going to slow it down much, and help the front brakes by planting firmly the contact patch.... The narrow front contact patch will also add to front brake performance, I feel. OK, I'll take a breath now. I think the chop is going to keep its carving capabilities just fine and be an 11 second car if I abused it.... I just can't drop clutches and slam gears, not my nature, but I really am going to push hard to make Bonneville 2017.....I've never been, what better way to first experience it than with Your own ride? The top end math works out to pretty staggering numbers, the 911 axle ratios are fairly tall already and the Lexi is a 6500 rpm motor in stock form, I may play with cams/springs and move it up to seven k...Im leaving that decision to tuner, I'm just a bondoe jockey.......... Peace, bc

On the weekend ill try to get some text in to go along with the pics that Photon imported to this thread for me A few posts back. Verizon finally got the net hooked up so i can start tapping my own pics again.

Again,
Re-echoing what everyone has said:

That IS a DAMN Fine looking Bug!
Golly!
Beautiful Jimi, simply beautiful!
What VISION!

Great to have you back "Bladecutter"

PS: The Lexus engine?
Have you made up your mind yet?

Already bought plus clutch and adaptor kit. Engine is coming from Rancho Cordova, hope it gets here today. Pretty sure im going with aussie stack injection and brain, lexi box pretty closed to change. Tuner is fabbing spaghetti exhaust also. The stack is made specifically for the lex 4.0, not a one size fits all deal. Glad You like the car Ski......i want to see Your 'vert and LeMans
