Hey, guys.
New member here and this is my first thread, so if I do something wrong don't rip me a new one (or at least do it gently).

A while back I stumbled across this Zippo on ebay- the guy had it listed as "Vintage Zippo with Retro design" or something like that.

My immediate reaction was that it looks like the '60s era Plymouth rocket logo. So, being unable to control any sort of money around Mopar stuff, I bought it.

The badge is a separate piece which is about 1/8" thick and epoxied to the lighter, the borders and rocket are either brass or gold plated (doesn't show up too well in photos), and the areas around the rocket appear to be recesses filled with colored enamel. There are no other markings on it besides Zippo branding. It has never been filled or struck.

The date code on the Zippo is for 1967, but (I think) the logo most closely matches the hood ornament for a '63-64 Fury/Belvedere/Savoy.

Hence why I pose this question on B-Bodies.

I can't find anything that looks like it or any mention of it online. There are other vintage Plymouth Zippos and such but nothing even close to this. The seller on ebay doesn't have any clue where it came from.

Any idea what this could be? Maybe a dealer gimmie or employee gift? Promotional freebie? or did someone just glue something to a Zippo in 1967 and forget about it?

Thanks for the help.

Hi, welcome to the forum! Interesting lighter, sorry I have no ideas to help out. But since you have the "unable to control any sort of money around Mopar stuff" in your blood, you're going to fit in here just fine. Why not pop over to the welcome section and introduce yourself?

The Mopar Zippo lighters I have are all embossed......and welcome to the site!

Thanks, photon. Will do. I figured I was in the right place.

Very cool lighter, welcome to FBBO, great bunch of "mostly friendly" Knowledgeable & helpful people here...

I've seen something like those before as "dealership promos".... IIRC

Thanks for the welcome, guys.

Yeah, most of the Plymouth branded stuff I could find with the rocket logo is embossed like cranky said.

I was leaning towards it being a dealer promo also. It's just odd that I can't find any others and it seems like the logo is sightly different in '67, with the pentastar below the rocket.

That's why I wasn't sure if the badge came off of something like an old dealership key chain or pin and someone stuck it on a lighter.

Of course I guess they could have just had a bunch of badges with that logo knocking around and needed to get rid of them.

I didn't live through that era (unfortunately), so your guess is probably better than mine, Bud.

As I do not know crap about Zippo lighters I'll just say Welcome from Minnesota.:headbang:

You're on the right track. It could be a dealer promo, It could be a company thing. There were so many different Zippo's at the time & not all were an official Zippo product that the company would know.

I was afraid of that, although I haven't called either company to see. Was hoping someone might recognize it.

now that's a cool RR engraved Zippo snakeyes
