I picked up a Dana 60 in a purchase this summer, out of curiosity I "decoded" the numbers on the axle tube and I believe its from a 66-67 car. powr-lok 3:54 ratio. My question is, should I cut this thing up to suite my needs for the car I'm working on? Orrrrrrrr should I off it and just purchase one already done. Seems a shame to hack it up, the thing barley has rust on it. just looking for opinions........Thank you

if it's for a race car and you don't need a pinion snubber, just get one from a junk yard from a 3/4 ton truck or van, or if you have the extra cash buy one done from Strange or Mosier.

Unless it's for a "pro-show" type car, the only thing on it worth using is the housing. I'd move it on down the road and that would cover a big chunk of the cost of just ordering an aftermarket Moser 60 or something along that lines. I contemplated the same thing and decided to build a fab9 rear for mine.

its for a mild 10 sec 1963 street car........definitely wont be for show

I don't cut up original 'automotive' Dana 60 housings. There's just too many truck housings out there to make like you want. Are you planning on going with Cal-Tracs or something along those lines? If so, you don't need a pinion snubber. Hell, I've never liked the way they act for drag racing etc anyways. Keep an eye on Craigslist if you want to do one from scratch yourself. Dana 60's came in all kinds of trucks across the board so it's not like they are rare. The rare ones are the ones made for cars and as far as I know, only Chrysler made them for cars.

And how mild of a 10 second car are you planning and how heavy will it be? An 8 3/4 might do the job just fine if the car isn't very heavy and running a stick....

I have been looking for a clean 66-67 Dana for a long time. Don't cut it up!

After consulting a map, I see that you are correct sir. Incidentally, I also just paid freight to get this from Franksville, WI.
