I know this has probably been answered before, but when you search this forum for 727 you get 200 plus threads to read, so here goes again.

My father in law has given me an old 727 that has been sitting in a Barn for a LONG time. Before I get it rebuilt I just want to make sure it will work for my application.

It will be going into a 68 Charger with a stock 383 and stock rear end.

Is there a set of numbers I should be looking for on the tranny?

Is there a year I should avoid? How do you tell what year it is?

I have heard there are different tail stock lenghts? what do I need?

Also if it will work is there any thing I should be asking to get done while it is getting rebuilt?

Any help would be appreciated. :iamwithstupid:

No cars that I know of came with the short tail shaft 727....but they did show up in some pickups and all motor homes that came with a big block. The transmission for a 68 B body car should be about 34 1/2" long.....stem to stern.
