I put 1973 Duster brakes on my 64 Sport Fury. Was never impressed with the stopping power. replaced all flex lines. no better. Found the 11 3/4 brackets and put them on with 1976 Aspen calipers which are larger than the Duster caliper. The 15/16 piston MC (new) from the Duster would not move enough fluid with the larger calipers bought a 1 11/32 MC and got my pedal back. The problem is not air in the lines. There is just not enough stopping power. If I power brake the car it will overcome the brakes around 1200 rpm with a stall converter. Any thoughts? should I go back to the smaller calipers and MC ? I have the prop valve from the duster, and just double checked the way the lines go in with a pic from another thread. Should I get rid of the prop valve and go with an adjustable one?

i have had the best luck with an adjustable prop valve to the rear and a brass diverter to split the front.each car is different and that seems to work the best.

Are these power brakes? If so, what booster do you have and how much vacuum are you getting? I have a similar setup, and I've had numerous issues that are now sorted. My pedal effort is high, but it definitely will stop the car. I assume you have thoroughly flushed all the lines. I had really bad breaking when I first converted to discs, and the issue ended up being one caliper where the piston got stuck. Before you go hacking away, check out a few things- like do the pistons and shoes all move when you apply pressure? Pop off the calipers, have a buddy push the pedal (A LITTLE!) and check. Or jack up the car, spin one wheel at a time and make sure they all stop. Make sure your pedal isn't bottoming out, but I find that hard to believe with that size MC. You do probably want to add an adjustable proportioning valve, but let's see if we can't get it better before that- something seems wrong other than that to me.

I wish they were power brakes, but I've only got 12" of vacuum.I can check the calipers and drums, but It had the same feel with the smaller rotors and Duster calipers. 67coronet, I was thinking of doing that since I don't have alot of options, but will save that if it's nothing simple.

too much fluid to the rear will cause week stopping power since you end up stopping the rear way too soon.if you had a seized caliper it would pull like cazy when braking.

Not getting any pull.Stops very straight. When I can get it in the shop to work on it, I will check the obvious stuff again. Right now I have the neighbors rustang tying me up with an engine rebuild, but still want to hear all ideas so I have things to try when I get my car in the shop.

I used the Diplomat disc front/stock drum rear set up on my 64. I first used a Dart m/c spec'd for a disc drum application and had the same problem as you. I perused the NAPA catalog and changed to the largest piston manual brake m/c I could find - I wish I could remember the application. I also added a prop valve.

Night and day difference. The car stops hard!
