Not sure who to go with. Have looked at Muscle Motors for a complete, assembled short block. Or 440 Source for all the parts and a local Machine shop (Race Engine Design) for the machine work and assembly.
Just don't want to waste a lot of money.

What Indy heads do you have. What is the purpose of the motor ss or drag only.Pump gas,e-85,or race gas.

Heads are new in the box complete and no markings of any kind. Mostly street engine pump gas. My partner wants it to run 7.0's in the eighth. We are looking at 500 to 528"

Do you have the block too? If so that will obviously save you that much more. Although that big of a carb may be a tad too much for even a good stroker if you want to stay on pump gas but you might be able to make it work. A decent set of heads is a BIG part of a decent stroker motor cost. Sure they will probably need some work to work well with whatever config you decide to go with but the fact that you have the heads already is huge.

I would try to find a reputable mopar machine shop/builder and ask what they would charge to do the work on the block/heads and assembly using your parts.

Then just do some reading, or consult the builder for suggestions, make a decision on what size stroker you want. Research the parts, add it all up and see where you stand. I would think for that kind of budget you should be able to do it without a lot of effort.

Mine is a 493 in my 63. I use a 440Source kit and I went with dished pistons because I use the Indy EZ heads with the 75 CC chamber. I have good quench and 10.6 comp so it runs fine on 92 pump. I am using the Indy dual plane intake and it along with my heads are Max Wedge port size. It has a custom grind solid flat tappet cam thats 264 & 270 @ .050 and .634 lift with 1.6 rockers. 110 LSA anbd I have it on a 106 ICL. I am using an 850 DP for now and it ran 11.0's @121 but it was bucking in the top of the gears as it was still to lean. I know with it fattened up a tad it should run easy 10's. Thats running it thru the full exh just like I drive it as I drove it to the track. Ron

That sounds great Ron. 440 Source was my 1st choice because their prices are so reasonable. Mostly quality issues I was concerned about.

Only issue I had with 440Source was the wrist pins are a tad tight in the rods but that was fine with me as I like to fit them myself. I used a brake cylinder hone and sized the rods just right. Everything else checked out good and is working fine. Ron

If you want a decent price for what you want call Robinson Engines, 1 513 727 9443. Stay away from dot source parts. experienced in all mopar engines, they built the championship engine in last year's Chrysler Classic Hemi class. Plus several engines that finished in the top 10 of all classes. Ask for Rosie

I am happy with my 522 stroker and good price

I did mean to tell you I rejetted my carb and ran a best of 10.76 @ 124.49 ! Ron

I'm currently building a 505" stroker with the 440 source kit, 4.25" stroke, 7.1" rods, 17cc dished pistons for pump gas 10.3:1 compression with 84cc heads.
I checked the ballance on the parts and it was pretty good. The crank main and rod sizes were right in the middle of the spec, same for the rod big ends. I had two small rod ends that were tight, and the #5/6 rod pair side clearance was a bit tight also. All the rest checked out good. Crank end play was good. This is for a 4-speed car and the hole for the pilot bushing in the crank was tight also.
The kit clears my '68 cast date 440 block without any bore notching, and just a bit clearance removed from the oil pickup boss.
Anyhow, thats about it on the shortblock, no big issues, just the minor stuff above.

I'm kind of in the same boat as FatJack in trying to figure out the best route to go. I was planning to go with the 440 source 512 stroker kit, but then noticed in Mopar Muscle that Indy has a 500 cu in short block for around $3100. By the time I buy the stroker kit, have the block bored, press in cam bearings ...etc, I don't see that I would be that much money ahead by doing it myself. I would assume that Indy would put out a quality product and it would save me a lot of time and hassle. I'm just looking at a robust street engine and don't plan to hammer on it constantly.
