The gloss black paint on the interior side of the doors above the door panel is chipped in several places. Most paint shops around here don't want the job since it's too small (i.e. no big insurance bill).

So, I was thinking of masking the doors and using the self leveling 2 part epoxy paint.

What do you guys think?

Thanks FBBO

I masked mine and used rustoleum spray paint. don't know how particular you are, but it worked fine for me

Epoxy will work, but it will fade in sunlight. "self leveling" = "runny". I suggest either spray paint OR is you use a 2-part paint, try a polyurethane or a urethane/acrylic hybrid for better sunlight fade resistance. Make SURE you have those doors ultra-clean since the skin oil from your arm on the door will make paint peel.

I don't want to use spray paint since the doors are on a finished car.

I called the local Maaco and they quoted me $100 per side, depending on the amount of labor to sand out the chips. Seems a little high but at least I can expect paint with no dust particles embedded in the paint like most of the stuff I've painted at home. Plus, I don't want to risk over spray on the rest of the car.

100 per side on a finished car is actually low IMO........ door panels should be removed, chips need to be sanded out, primer applied, primer sanded...... masking of entire car during every stage...... at 200 bucks maaco will most likely make a mess....... removing the doors may be a much cleaner and faster way to go...... either way, you are at the mercy of the person doing the job and the time they have allotted to do it. Good Luck

Both door panels have been removed and one side has been sanded. I tried to find a shop that would use a air brush to limit over spray to no avail.

Do it yourself! That way if you screw up, you got no one to blame but yourself! It may make you pay attention and not screw it up. Good Luck.
