Needing new upper cowl section for my 71 satellite correct me please.

Hello! My car (1971 satellite) has some rust in the upper cowl area just below the window. I’m wanting to purchase a new one and cut from it and replace what needs done. Am I correct that this one will work? I can’t find any that state 71/72 bbody. I found some for 68-70 bbody and they do not match mine at all but this looks just like mine! Anyone know?

I believe you are on the right track but still not quite there. Your car is a "B" body not the "E" body as shown in your post.

Correct but I can’t find any b body ones that match the look of mine. The one in the pic matches the look of mine from the pictures although I do realize it says E body

E body cowl is very close.

There's documentation somewhere (I've seen it, and it may be on FBBO) about what exactly is and isn't the same.

Can you post some pics of the rusted areas? Like gdrill asked, can you fabricate patches? No need to replace a whole cowl for just a few rust through spots.

If no one makes replacement panels you will have to place a wanted ad for used parts. May be someone has a parts car with good parts you need. There is places like Desert Valley Auto Parts that may have what you need.

The body shop could make their own however this would be much less labor intensive and would save money if I just purchased a new cowl and cut the upper half off to use I only need the top 1/2 of the cowl of so just where the bottom of the window sits

I think that is a good plan. My guess is that the entire thing could not be swapped in, but section of it for patches will work just fine.

I was also thinking the same thing I’m just hoping someone has attempted it before me just so I know. But it looks so similar maybe I need an E body guy to take some measurements of that window area to see how close it actually is

I think the shape of the outer ends is different, and possibly other areas.

Check the "vent stack" areas.

If that area is that bad.....

The vent areas usually go first.

I cannot believe no one here has dealt with this and has an answer........ I haven't worked on anything 71-up other than E bodies, how much is an E body upper cowl? I'd be tempted to order one and start hacking


also.......I assume the lower cowl becomes the firewall like an E body? and is it also rotted?

I stuck my light and phone down there looking for any holes or anything that looks and i didn’t see any further down in the lower cowl area. When it’s pulled apart I’ll know more for sure
